HTML Editor hangs - Post ID 156381

I have HTML editor, build 369, running in Window 7, 64 bit. It hangs. A lot. I am editing [pretty basic files, nothing fancy] and it stops working. I wait and eventually "not responding" shows. It is locked and is going nowhere. It is happening so often that it is impossible to work with it. :(

I can edit the files in a text editor. However, I'd like to get Coffee Cup working again.

Have you tried right-clicking on the icon and select Run as Administrator to see if that helps any?

When the program locks you don't right click and get a response. You open Task Manager and end the program or you watch it not responding forever.

Is it not compatible with Windows 7, 64 bit?

Cheryl - Works fine on Win7 64 bit... Some have had to change settings to "Run as Administrator" or run in compatibility mode WinXP.

Ah, just a small problem. Wish I had asked about 6 months ago. I really was ready to throw it out.

It never occurred to me. I assumed you would have mentioned that little issue upfront if that was it.

Glad it was a simple fix.

Yeah that's one of the nasty things about Windows 7 and Vista. Glad it's an easy fix, and one thing to keep track of is if you have more issues with other software, even things that aren't from CC, that's the first thing to try, setting it to load with Run as Administrator. That usually fixes most issues I have with programs not running correctly, starting correctly, starting at all, erroring out etc. Have fun with it :)

But that is not the ideal "fix" and can cause other problems. Running as administrator should be a temporary event.

I've been using Windows 7 for more than two years now - I was an early beta tester because Vista was so nasty - and I can count on the fingers of one hand the programs that have had problems. Unfortunately, one is CC HTML editor. Another was the FTP program.

Unfortunately that is the permanent fix. The HTML Editor uses some system libraries that if your computer will not allow access to, it needs elevated permissions to utilize them. Just auto-set the permission on that program to always Run as Administrator and then you never have to worry about it again.

Now I can say for me here on Windows 7 (32bit and 64bit), I have never had to do this at all.

Nor me (win7/64) and I've always been wondering why some people have to set it to Run as Admin and some don't.

Ok, I'll make a note of that and also that I don't like it. I have a lot of webmasters I work with and none of them have complained. I do encourage them to use CC but they may not be using Windows 7.

Windows 7 suggested I run it in XP compatibility mode which is what I am trying at the moment. I'll try running it as admin and see if that is an improvement.

Thanks.
