HTML Editor 2008 Will not upload via ftp

I'm not at all new to this stuff, but, I am fairly new to Coffee Cup.

The problem I have encountered is trying to upload to webhost through the HTML editor. I have a workaround in place, but, it would be nice to be able to upload right from the software. The uploader does connect, the upload does not start most of the time.

Every once in a while the upload goes straight through. I did a search, but, don't really see a relevant current post on the matter.

OS XP SP3. I guess I am wondering if I am working with a rogue problem unrelated to the software, or if this might be software related.

Thanks for your time!

John,

Are you using the free FTP that comes in HTML 2008? If you are, I just tried uploading with the free FTP in HTML 2008 and it worked fine. I tried it 7 times and it worked every time. I have not heard of anyone having a problem with that FTP program. I think either (some how) you got a glitch when you download the editor or for some reason it is a hosting issue.
You may want to check out the new FTP 6.6 (beta). You can setup to upload several pages and files at the same time. Easy to use layout. In my opinion it is a must have.

I have a problem with the HTML editor's FTP (and only the one in that program) that's related to McAfee and firewall issues. Even though I've "allowed" CoffeeCup programs, it blocks the HTML editor. When I'm ready to upload, I have to disable the firewall, upload, and reenable it.

Could your problem be something similar?

I have a paid version of Coffeecup HTML editor 2010 Build 369. And the “Upload File To Server” function doesn’t work.

I have two sites to which I upload files. Both sites are configured correctly. I’ve triple checked Server Names, Users and Passwords. Both are set at “Standard FTP”, “Port 21”, “Passive mode” and”Ask” before uploading.

I’ve configured both correctly according to the program.

I go to: “Upload File To Server”, “Add or Edit Servers”, “Server Configuration” where is see my two servers listed.

When I go to: “Test Settings...”, each tells me “Test Complete”, Remote Host Connection Complete”, “Success! We connected to your FTP server!”

Well, that all may be so but nothing happens. I can't find anything that addresses this issue in the help.pdf or elsewhere.

As I understand you get a successful test, but when you try Websites>>Upload selected files, it does not transfer anything to your website?

Paul, first, let us have the URL to the website.
Second, did you upload to the public_html folder (sometimes called the www folder)?
Third: Have you been able to upload stuff to your servers earlier, or is this the first time you try?
Fourth: Are you able to log into your server using an independent FTP client, such as FileZilla or CoffeeCup DFTP?
Fifth: Do you get an error message, and if so, what does it say?

I mentioned this somewhere else for a similar issue...is your server requiring you to register your own IP address in order to give you ftp access? I now have to do this every day before I am able to upload anything since my ISP set up this requisite for security reasons at the beginning of the year.
If I do not do this I am unable to use any kind of ftp connection to my server space - neither through the HTML Editor nor with my usual external ftp application.
When you say Every once in a while the upload goes straight through can you actually put more specific timings on that? Do you mean that you have had "occasions you can load followed by those you cannot and then other occasions that you can again"?
Rick may be right when he - like myself - suggest that it might be a hosting issue.

So go into your server dashboard and see if there have been any recent changes to the requirements for uploading....see if you can see something along the lines of "FTP Access Filter"

You can pick up your IP address on this site:

Inger...it is, I agree. Never thought I would have needed it as often as I now use it that's for sure!

For the uninitiated, I have to admit that I haven't checked if there is something similar in other languages, though it isn't that important as it is enough to hover over the IP box and copy the content for those situations where this information is required for ftp access...

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
