I'm using HTML Editor 2008. All I want to do is make a few Meta Keyword changes. I made the changes/additionsl and saved it with the name Meta Update and uploaded successfully. When I open the page again . . . no changes. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone help? Thanks Bob

Bob,

You may want to click on profile, and change your forum name to something other than your email address. This is a public forum, and spammers can send their bots to look for email addresses.

It might help if we had a link to your page and a description of the meta keywords you were changing.

When you downloaded your home page, it should have had a name like index.htm or default.htm. When you made the changes, you uploaded the file with a new name. Try looking for the new file using an address something like this: http://www.yoursite.com/metaupdate.html

Now visitors to your site will not be able to find that. What you should do is edit your home page, and save the file with the same name, then upload it to your site and actually replace the file on your website with the new file.

Remember that when someone types in your URL, they will enter something like: www.yoursite.com and the server will serve up the default page which will be named either "default" or "index" depending on what the server wants for that front page to your site. The only way your visitors will know about other pages on your site will be from navigation links on your front page, or you will need to send them the links. So naming a page with a name of update will not tell the server to use that file.

I hope this has made sense, and if not, ask questions and friendly folks here will pitch in with the answers.

Thanks for the advice. I'm continuing to work away at the site.

I have a new front page for my website and would like it to replace my old front page without losing the old one which I would like to keep as a spare front page, is this possible and how difficult can it be. Thank you.

You could rename the old index page to index2.html before uploading the new one.

Something I have to do every time I upload a changed file, is refresh my browser, forcing it
to see the new changes.....

Just a thought.

As for the spare file, save the old one as Inger suggests, I save as IndexBak before
making changes, then reopen and modify Index, uploading them both at the same time

I am still using HTML Editor 2008, and I have a problem with square characters (I assume they are characters) that sometimes show up where spaces in text should be. Even on pages where there are no squares, if I make any simple changes to the page and save it I often find that these sqaures show up after re-launching the changed page.

For example, look at : http://www.kennethlanesmithgallery.com/ … place.html

You should see that the square characters have pushed the text out of alignment.

What is causing this and how do I correct it?

Many thanks,

Kenneth

Hi Kenneth,

I looked at your source code, copied it all, pasted it into my sample of CC HTML Editor, saved it - and no such squares. Also the bottom line of text, which I see colliding with the line above, was positioned correctly.

The difference is that I have the newest version of the HTML Editor. You as a registered user can also update your editor to the latest, free of charge, just log into you account and download it. :)

Inger:

Thank you. I did download the 2010 version and saved the file in question and for some reason that corrected it.

Two additional questions if I may:

1: What happened to the visual editing option. As a non-coder, this new version is useless to me. Maybe if I read the manual :-)

2: I am a registered user of the 2008 version. I downloaded the trial version. I am assuming that upgrades are free. If so, how do I apply my registration to the new version?

Again, many thanks!
