Cliff or Lee, I am also a new and pedestrian user of CoffeeCup. Am also having problems with squares and other code characters showing up in my published product. Excuse me if I'm overlooking it in this thread, but....

HOW DID YOU SOLVE YOUR ISSUES WITH ERRANT AND UNINTENDED CHARACTERS?

Thanks, MC

Martin,

Typically this is caused by copying something from another program such as MS Word. If you have a link to the page, maybe someone can locate the problem and help you fix it.

You can also try changing the meta tag...

You may have this one:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

There may be a slash (/) before the ">". The important part is

charset=utf-8

Or charset may equal something else. Try changing it to the following, resaving and publishing your page.

charset=windows-1252

You can also have a look at the text where the funny characters are showing up. It's most likely characters like ' " ( ! that were copied from another text. Re-type those, save and upload and see if the special characters are gone. Also look for unever spacing between words. Remove the extra spaces if they are seen in your text in the editor.
