Hiya rhubarb,

I think the issue here is maybe you don't have file extensions turned on to show in your file names? If you do then the biggest hint you can get is in the file extension name.

.cpf = CoffeeCup Project File (or some semblance thereof)

.cpfs - CoffeeCup Project File for S-Drive

It's a pretty good distinction and really can't be missed if you have extensions turned on for you operating system. You really should have them turned on if you don't it's very hard to build websites when you're not sure what file you're editing in the end :P

If you do have them turned on, then you have a very good indication as to which is which without any doubts there :)

If you mean the extensions in Windows Explorer, those are visible. Never could figure out why anyone would want to hide them. If there's a way of displaying them in HTML Editor, I would sure like to know. I've been looking in Tools/ options and maybe I'm not seeing it?

Ahhhh ok now I see what the issue is here, you're looking for that file in the HTML Editor and it isn't going to show at all because those files are not used or needed for working on your website. They are only used by the HTML Editor itself in order to open the correct location of your website project so it's never needed to show up there. Hope that makes more sense.

When you open the program for the first time it creates those files for each of your projects that you add. Then let's say you have to format your computer so you backup all your projects on an external drive or whatever. After you format you get the HTML Editor reinstalled and you put the projects.ini file back into the location in the appdata folder where it needs to be (check with me if you're not sure on what that means and I can explain that part for backing up your projects file).

Now what happens is you put your projects folders back where you want them on your computer, but the program doesn't know where that is until you tell it again so... when you open a project it will ask you to navigate to that projects location. It knows what that location is after you do that because you will choose the .cpf file that's in that directory for it to load it. From then on, any time you choose that project in the list of projects in the drop down, it will know what directory(ies) to open for it.

You can also not bother with the projects.ini file and just click the "Open Website Project" button and navigate to the location of a project. Choose that .cpf file and it will populate your Website Projects list for you.

That's really the only times the program needs to know what that file is or where, and your web pages and web building have no relevance to that file, it's only for the program to see itself.

Hope that helps and makes it easier to know what it's all about. :) Trust me, it's a good thing not a bad or frustrating one or one that will cause you any issues. :)
