DHTML Menu Strange Behavior - Post ID...

Hi all,

I am experimenting with using DHTML menus, and I have come across, what I consider, some strange behavior. The page I'm developing is relatively simple containing only a logo and the menu in question.

I am using DHTML Menu 2.2 and the HTML Editor.

The code for the menu is in a folder called includes residing on the server. I have inserted a #include directive in the body of the page.

Please look at the following link: http://www.momscustomhomes.com/indexTest.shtml

When one puts the mouse over the About Us menu choice, the drop-down menu appears; however, not beneath the menu, but from beneath the top of the page! This behavior occurs in both IE 7 and Firefox.

Questions:
    1. Does anybody know what would cause such behavior?
    2. The menu behaves as expected when I preview it in DHTML Menu 2.2, but not when I access it live.
    3. Do I need to put the menu inside a container to avoid this?
    4. .

I have successfully done this operation previously in Visual Site Developer, but I have just "graduated" to the HTML Editor, so I am facing some new challenges

Thanks, in advance, for any guidance you can provide,
John H.

Hiya John,

Although I don't know the answer as to why it's doing what it's doing, I don't understand the code used very well sorry, I can say you should put it into a container of some sort to get better control of it. I don't think that's why it's going to the top though, I think that's some setting somewhere, but I don't know what setting sorry.

Hi Jo Ann,

I've been away for the day. I think I'm going to a book store now to see if I can find a reasonable book or two to help me along here. The menu displays fine if I load the code into the page and then preview the page. On the server; however, it's a different story. I had menus working before with VSD, and things were fine (I thought!). I've been working on this for 3 days now, and I'm thinking maybe it would be easier to use VSD with includes. At least I had two sites working that way. I hope I can find something good at the bookstore. Thanks for your suggestion about a container. I will explore that option as well.

Off to the bookstore.......

GL John, hopefully you can find some good books to get you started, there are a lot of books on html and css out there so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding them.

I'm wondering something on your menu though, maybe it's the menu file(s) that are missing online somewhere or pointing to the wrong place? If you can view them in preview then they should be on the server too unless the files just aren't all there. Maybe the CSS file isn't there or something? Check to be sure all the files you need for your site, menu and anything else are all present and accounted for online, and be sure they are in the right directories too.

Hi Jo Ann,

No luck at the bookstore tonight. I live in a sleepy town, and Barnes and Noble close early.

I have had a modicum of soccess in the last couple of hours. I tried the CSS Menu Designer in the Editor, and successfully got the menu to work using CSS and Includes. But now there is a new issue. I just posted the issue in the Editor forum. It's titled: "IE 7 Issue with CSS Menu Designer."

Thanks, again, for your good suggestions. I will follow up on what you've suggested.
