Can I change the HTML Editors background color? I do not mean the background of a HTML document. Form the default white to a darker color?

Changing the Editor background color?...
Yes you can! Got to Tools/Preferences then Customization then Modify Highlighting. Once there you can set your foreground/Background colors.

Much obliged Gunsmoke.. That's exactly what I was looking for. I viewed that Modify Highlighting panel before and completely missed it. It was only staring me in the face.. LOL. I'm getting old ... :-) Take Care..

This works well for HTML files but not for Javascript files which it treats as text files and therefore doesn't colour the different parts of the code. Also, I cannot seem to change the background colour for css files.
Do you know how to change these two background/highlighting options please?
