Cyberjunkie9,

You may want to click on profile and change your forum name to something other than your email address. Spammers are always looking for valid email addresses.

With version 6.5, there is no switch. In the PDF manual, there is a statement that says, "When transferring files, they are either transferred in ASCII or BINARY mode. This is now seamlessly integrated into Direct FTP, so there is no need to change the transfer mode."

Hope this helps.

Right now the upload type is always set to Auto, however in one of our next versions we will have an option to manually set this.

Hello Bill and others:

I have been using Direct FTP Version 6.2. This version had the manual options of setting it to auto, ascii or binary. I have regularly had some difficulty uploading some .xls format spreadsheets and then testing them by downloading them to my desktop and trying to open them. The results have often been that no matter which setting I try, the results are that I have to try doing this process several times before somehow I luck out and I am finally able to open non-corrupted files at the end of the tests.

I came here today to ask what i could do to fix this situation (short of switching to a different ftp program, which I am not anxious to do). Before asking my question, I noticed that I did not have the latest version (6.5). I have upgraded to 6.5. I see that it has no option of setting ascii, binary or auto. I guess it's basically auto, and that's it. Can it be trusted? I guess I will have to do some testing. Yet, if Coffee Cup has changed this setting and read these forums, then there must be some background to this issue and perhaps you could expand on the history of the issue. In your experience of using Direct FTP, and of reading feedback from users, has the software significantly improved on this point?

Thanks for any help on this matter. I would not dwell on it so heavily, but the matter is relatively important on my end, to get it right.

not really answering your problem, just to let you know you can change transfer options, under "actions" then transfer modes. .
