Hi Inger (nice name you have there ;) ),

You can upload using any ftp client you want, and if your hosting service has a cpanel with file upload, it will work with that too. Just be sure you upload all the files and folders pertaining to your site.

CoffeeCup has hosting, it's called S-Drive. Check it out from the link at the top of the page.

Cheers from another Inger

I would also take into consideration the Program you are uploading the files for. In other words, there are 2 CoffeeCup programs that you "should" use the internal FTP system for and those would be the Visual Site Designer and the Shopping Cart Creator (both basic and Pro). Those 2 programs have some complex file systems that are better off (easier on you too) done through the program so that the files aren't forgotten and that the structure is retained. VSD also will upload backups for you to help in case you lose the .vnu file which is actually the entire site.

If not those 2 programs, then it really doesn't matter what FTP system you use.

By 'plan' do you mean your hosting plan with Crazydomain? Not knowing their services, but I would think you can upload whichever way of the earlier mentioned ones.

If the 'plan' you are asking about means something else, then you'll have to tell us what.

Online Now

In the direct ftp program click on "Servers". Now in the window that opens look for the black and orange gear shift knob below the server list window. Click on that to setup your S-Drive account through ftp.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Inger, can you post a screen shot of your settings in Direct FTP? Assuming that your user details given to you by Crazydomain are correct, but double check spelling, just to be sure. Before you make the screen shot, please open the 'More options' field. You may of course obfuscate your user name (and the password is represented by some asterisks anyway), if you want to, but let us see the other settings.

Before you post the screen shot, check if you have ticked off 'Passive mode'. If you haven't try that, if you have, remove it.

I don't think there are any faults in the programmes Free FTP or Direct FTP. Thousands of people are using them all over the world, with a vast range of hosting companies. Mind you, I have had occasions when I had to use FileZilla for things that DFTP could not handle, but that was several versions ago.

yeah they should both work fine so I'm going to assume this is either user error (wrong settings somewhere) or server complications of which you may need to be sure you have the right information for setting up the FTP accounts in the program.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
