My Direct FTP 6.6 is now "killing...

OK I have been using CC Direct FTP v 6.6 since it came out. Upgraded from the old version.

As usual, I reformat my computer every year. I reformatted earlier this month and tried to install my program again. I backed up the old files and replaced them like I always do and nothing is working right.

NONE of my logins were saved. This sucks because I just lost a LOT of important stuff. It usually does recover when I do this.

Is there a way to back up my info before I kill this next time I need to reformat?
Maybe a backup feature in the next version?

Also, It's now crashing on me. I'm getting some kind of weird :child killed: error. I'm attaching a screen shot.

I tried to uninstall it completely - ALL files etc are gone, wiped out etc. Save nothing. Still happens.

It'll look like it's going to start up with the splash page and then it crashes. I cannot get it to bring up even the splash page after that.

I managed a screen shot for you.

I'm running XP. I've never had this happen before.

Why do I always get the weird stuff to report?

The login's are stored in this location:

c:\Documents and Settings\{username}\AppData\Roaming and the file you want is SharedSettings.css

The other error is from a bad install. To correct this first, uninstall the software and then reboot your system. Then go to c:\Documents and Settings\{username}\AppData\Roaming\CoffeeCup Software and delete the SCC.lic file

Now re-install the software again and it should run normally.

Well that was yet another waste of time.

Before I even uninstalled the program I went to look for the file in the path you showed me.

I don't even have a folder called AppData! I have an Application Data folder but no AppData.
There is NO folder called Roaming in there either.

So inside that application data folder i have but one file before AND after install: DFTP2.lic

This .lic file is in the C:\Documents and Settings \Compaq_Owner\Application Data folder AND in the C:\Program Files\CoffeeCup Software\Direct FTP

So.... I also did a search for the file you said to look for and delete - SCC.lic

I could not find that file anywhere in my system before or after uninstall. I used the search feature as well to make sure.

Remember..... I have reformatted my computer, installed it and it failed. I reinstalled an earlier version and it works but REALLY BADLY - very slow on completing every function.

So I took that out and EVERY file with it. I have deleted ALL my CC programs and deleted EVERY file associated with it. Used the search tool to make sure.

Rebooted and tried a fresh install on a new downloaded file.

I get the same damn error!

Could there be a possiblity that your exe / download is corrupt?

I'm at my wits end! I love my CCFTP because it allows me direct editing on the server. Plus it's the ONLY program that allows me to actually SEE passwords if I forget them.

help!

All Systems have an AppData folder. That is generated by Windows itself. If you do not see it then you are probably still hiding hidden files and folders. Remember by default windows does not shows these.

I would suggest opening a support ticket and link this forum post with it. I can confirm that both the trial versions and registered versions are just fine on our server, so something is wrong with your operating system. What that is, I can't fully say without getting more detailed information.

I can confirm after checking that it shows the Windows Protected Files setting that the AppData directory is there, but after going through about 10 folders deep inside it to the last folder... it's empty on my computer, nothing in it at all. None of the folders in that AppData folder have anything other than an another empty folder in it.

You are using Windows XP so you need to look in your user profile for the right files. Since you formatted your machine and reinstalled, I'm betting you grabbed only the program files folders to save and not the file that contains all your server data.

In XP, the file should be located in the root of either:

c:\documents and settings\*yourusername*\Application Data

or - and you need to have system and hidden folders visible to see these folders (find Folder Options in the Explorer Tools menu, go to View and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' and 'Hide file extensions for know file types' and check 'Show hidden files and folders') - find the following folder:

c:\documents and settings\*yourusername*\Local Settings\Application Data

The SharedSettings.css file should be in one of these. It isn't a 'normal' css file so you can't edit it with the usual editors.

Hope this helps

Dave.

Nope,

I can find all the folders you say, but there's no SharedSettings.css file anywhere in there for me. I've got like 6 different profiles for admin (still ain't figured out why since I've only ever made the one account at login and that's it), but I've checked them all in the Application Data and the Local Settings Application Data area, nothing there at all, not under coffecup or anywhere else I could see :/

You are probably in the wrong folder. Direct FTP or Shopping Cart Creator would then not list any of your Websites to upload to if that file was missing.

Scott, Dave - Thanks.

Trust me when I tell you that I do NOT have this folder in my system. I DO have all hidden files and folders viewable. I spent considerable amount of time searching each folder manually. I am the only user on this machine.

I used the SEARCH feature in my computer to find this and it did not.

I'll put in the support ticket as you suggest.

yep I agree Scott, but it's most definitely not where it should be then lol, all the software I use have all the ftp settings so obviously it's saved somewhere, and the DirectFTP keeps my settings on uninstall/reinstall which I found out on that test version last week so it's somewhere, it's just not where you're saying it is lol
