Setting up Direct FTP when no domain...

Howdy,

I am working on a new web site on a new host while the existing web site is still running on the old host. Obviously, I can't use the domain name since this goes with the current site and the Nameservers haven't been changed. I tried using ftp. and the IP address (ftp.123.456.77.88) but this did not work. I know the username and password are correct because I can access the site's cPanel. I was even able to install WordPress. ( I did have to modify the database to use the IP instead of the domain name to be able to login)

How do I configure Direct FTP to work with the site?

Can't you use a sub-folder or directory to hold the new website while your working on it?
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I just answered my own question. My rusty old mind remembered solving this same problem some time ago with FileZilla :)

The format needs to be ftp://123.456.77.88

Direct FTP works just fine when this change is made.
