Permissions change every time I upload!

Something has changed, either in my DirectFTP settings, or with my host. I have never had this problem: When I installed a program, I changed all the permissions from 0644 to 0755 as required by the program. When I made modifications to a file and uploaded it, the permissions used to remain at 0755 as I had set them.

However, starting about a week ago, the permissions now change back to 0644 every time I modify and upload a file. I then have to manually change the permissions back to the required 0755!

Is there a setting in DirectFTP to NOT change permissions, that somehow got changed? If so, what/where is it?

If not, could something have changed at my web host where they now automatically change uploads to a default 0644?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

I do not think there are any settings in DirectFTP for that. Have you asked your host if they have changed something in their server configurations to set permissions to 0644?

Hi Bill. Yes. The tech I spoke to said that all files are uploaded as 0644 for security. If that's so, then why did permissions for files always remain unchanged for months and months when I uploaded new changes, after initially changing the permissions online to 0755... until recently? He then said that something must have changed with my ftp program, that's why I posted here. But maybe he didn't know what he's talking about? Naaah... techs are ALWAYS right... right? Ha, ha, ha. I'll call a few more times until I find a tech who might be much more tuned to this situation.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

Unless you upgraded or changed a setting yourself, then your copy of DirectFTP did not change, but then you knew that. :)

I have worked with techs that would spew something that sounds good, just to get away from something they could not solve.

Good luck on finding a tech with the savvy to provide an answer.

Any chance that you have access to any of the settings via .ini files or via the control panel?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
