Multiple server directories in single...

OK, I'm going to risk making myself look silly (again). I've been successfully using a very popular open source FTP solution for a long time. All along, I've been checking out CC Direct FTP, but it never rose to the level I thought it should be—until now.

I have purchased CC Direct FTP and find it to be quite friendly, and a bit more intuitive than the open source solution. There is, however, one major thing that I haven't been able to do in Direct FTP, which is select multiple files on my local computer and then upload them to the appropriate different directories on the server, ALL IN ONE OPERATION--THAT IS, IN ONE TRANSFER QUEUE. This is an important feature to me, especially when I go to transfer a LOT of files up to my server, and I'm ready to go to bed!

Of course, doing this out of the HTML editor, when working on source code is a no brainer, being handled automatically by the HTML editor. But, if I'm doing this outside of the HTML editor, then it IS a big deal to me.

Has anyone been able to do this from inside CC Direct FTP? Perhaps I've overlooked some basic thing. I hope so.

Short answer, yes. If you're trying to do what I think you're trying to do...:P

You can 'highlight' any number of files and directories for upload, then 'Right-Click' and select upload.

If you are transferring files in one directory to several directories it gets a bit more complex. The only way I've done it is to highlight what you want in one directory, start the upload, then highlight another group and switch to that directory and start that upload, and so forth and so forth. You do not have to wait for the first upload to complete before selecting files for another upload. Once you get all the files working DirectFTP will process them all in order as you sleep away the night.

What you've described is how it's done in the open source solution, and I believe I tried the same thing once in CC Direct FTP, and that it balked. This particular thing is not addressed in the documentation, from what I can tell. Nonetheless, seeing as how you've done it successfully, I'll give it another whirl.

Thanks, again.

Good luck and let us know if you still have problems. One other thing I can say is that 'most' CoffeeCup software should be run as 'Administrator'. Simply right click the icon and select compatibility mode and check the box for 'Run as Administrator'. It might make the difference.

You can also drag and drop the files/directories to the other side too, you don't have to right click to choose the upload or press the upload button, just highlight all the files and folders you want to transfer then drag them to the remote side and drop it (preferably not inside another folder accidentally though hehe). :)

Another thought also comes to mind...If it looks like it 'bogging down' and you have trouble getting the files in queue, open the 'Transfers Activity Window' from the View button on the menu. Here you can pause active transfers, get everything you want in the queue, then restart the transfers. Might work a little better for you...

Well, it's still CC Direct FTP one, and Dick nothing.

Here's what I've done and what I think I've discovered:
    1. I started the upload of a 70MB mp3 file to a certain directory on the server
    2. While that upload was in progress, I tried to select a different directory on the server. This directory is superior to the one that I was transferring the mp3 file into, so it was not visible in the current directory tree. When I tried to navigate to locate the other directory, CC would not let me do so. It's like the transfer operation was modal, and you just couldn't do any navigating. I did not try pausing the active transfer as Gunsmoke suggested, but I'll try that in the future.
    3. Once the transfer was complete, I checked the file on the server, and it had been corrupted (it sounded terrible). I redid the transfer using the open source solution, and everything is OK.

A few more anecdotes:
    1. I own all but about five of the CC programs. I use most of them off and on. The only one I've had to run as administrator so far is VSD. I'm using a PC running a 64 bit Windows 7 OS. But, I'll keep the administrator thing in mind.
    2. The open source solution has some options you can set for once the transfer operation is complete. When I start a transfer and trundle off to bed, I set it to shut down the system when the operation is completed. I've not been able to find that option with CC. Does it exist?

Thanks to all for offering help. I'll stay with the open source solution until I can get back to trying some more stuff with CC. Especially, I'll try pausing the transfer operation in order to make the other selections--that sounds like it might work. Perhaps I'll add the shutdown options to the suggested features thread.

The corrupted mp3 could have been caused by many things, but probably not the program. Under 'Actions/Transfer Mode' make sure it is set to 'Binary'. Using the Transfer Activity Window to pause your uploads while switching directories is probably the only way to go. I tested this again last night and you are correct. The transfer seems to have priority and it is difficult to select a new directory, though it can be done. As far as shutting down when complete, as far as I can find that option is not in the program, but I know what you are talking about and I like it. I'm putting it in the 'suggestion box' and hopefully it will be added to an update. Be sure and let us know if you have and other questions or problems.
