Is It Me or My Host or CC FTP

I just downloaded the most recent, registered version of the FTP.

When I first connect everything is fine. When I select the folder in my host to upload to - it takes like 5 minutes for it to reload all of the content.

Then when I select the folder on the left - my local folder, it take a little less time, but still, several minutes.

Am I doing something wrong?

Which operative system are you running? How much RAM? CPU? Are you on dialup?

These are the questions that springs to my mind when reading about your problems.

I should have stated that because I knew someone would ask.

HP Pavillion Widescreen
XP Pro
Centrino Duo
2GB RAM
1GB on Video Card

I have the resources - I knew that much, but, is it my procedures? Could it be the host? 1and1.com

Doug,

I just ran a test using Direct FTP, and connected to my 1and1.com site. When I clicked on the site under the server, I connected immediately (less than 5 seconds and most of that was me remembering to look back at my watch).

I downloaded a folder with several files, and they moved right along. The only file that didn't download quickly was a 5 meg zip file, and it didn't really take long.

Your settings should be:

Nickname: what every suits your taste
Server: domain name no http://www just seoformywebsite.com (BTW, you added an o to the for in you domain name.

Username: the name given by 1and1

Password: you should know that

Click on the more options button and you should see

Protocol: FTP

Port: 21

Local Folder: where you store your code on your computer

Remote folder: probably blank, but if you need to move into a folder, you can put it here.

Proxy: None

That should work.

Thanks Bill, I will give it a shot and see what happens. I edited the URL. Thanks for that (doink).

That did it. I unchecked passive - used the URL versus typing in FTP.URL, it converted it to www.seoformywebsite.com and 7 secs to connect and instantaneous upload of files.

I believe putting in the remote directory saved me buku time waiting for it to access and display the files.

Thank you so much. I owe ya.
