Updated with the newest Free FTP today. Now when I open folders on my HD they show no files inside. Everything worked fine before the update. Any ideas?

Hiya Lloyd, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling to make sure it wasn't just a bad install?

How old was the version you "were" using compared to the newest version? Could be that maybe it was very old and had too many updates to install over it in case that's what you did, not sure how you installed it so let us know that part too.

If uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work, and if someone else doesn't have a more concise answer on this as I surely don't, you may need to try uninstalling the program, then use ccleaner from pirifom to clean your registry and reinstall again. Here's a link to it, it's very widely used by many of us here on the forums and all over the net, safe, secure, virus free etc. And it's a great program to boot:

Jo Ann,

Thanks for the note. However, this program is harder to kill than AOL. I just downloaded it a couple weeks ago but, it started coming up with the "new version available" so I downloaded it.
I downloaded and installed the ccleaner (thanks for that).

Here's what I have done:
Uninstalled the free ftp program
Deleted the download file
Ran the ccleaner
Re-booted my computer
Re-downloaded the free ftp program
Re-installed it
Opened it - all of my original ftp settings were still there and it still showed empty folders

Time for a ticket I suppose unless there are any other ideas.

hmm, ok let me ask a really stupid question lol, are you sure you have it pointing to the right directories? Also, are you sure the files you're trying to view aren't system files, that will sometimes not show up in file managing type programs.

Other than that, I have no idea why the files wouldn't show up, so yes if neither of the above are the culprit, go for the support ticket, CC team should be able to get you working correctly.

Be sure to reference this thread so they can read what you've already tried, or copy and paste your post to them so they have the info. Good luck on it Lloyd.

Please come back when you are all set and working and let us know what the problem was for future users, thanks :)

I'm not entirely sure why anyone would want to FTP local system files to their web server but in any case, Jo Ann is correct concerning hidden files. FTP client applications can be set to show/hide hidden files within the options menu. If the problem is that you misjudged what directory you were actually browsing, no worries - we've all been there before. :)

Thanks Jo Ann/Joker,

The CC FTP program is (was) just so simple to use. I don't need it but, one of my website clients (a small church group) needs to be able to upload files to me so I can update their website. They have problems with "cut & paste' if that gives you any idea of what I'm working with. Luckily, I sent them a note to set their Free FTP to NEVER UPDATE before they made the same mistake I did. So at this point they can still upload to their private ftp folder for me.

I don't find any settings within CC FTP for hiding files and my system is set to show All Files and Folders. It also worked fine before the update.

I will still open a ticket with CC though, just in case I'm not the only one having problems with the update.

Thanks again,
Lloyd

Sounds good Lloyd, hopefully the CC Team will be able to see what's wrong and help you work it out or fix it on their end whichever is the case. Glad it's at least back to working for you :)

Did you try going into the View Menu > Show hidden files and make sure that is checked?

Just to let you know what we have found -

From the CC Techs:

We've confirmed that the problem is the network drive. Our developers are looking into this right now and we should have a fix for it soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.
