Free FTP- Error #3?

I feel like I am so close, yet so far from getting my website up and running. I just downloaded Coffee Cup's Free FTP. Here's what I did....
File
Manage Servers
Entered in the Nickname, Username, and Password and clicked Connect.

Then it cleared back to the original page and under Message it says Error #3: The URL was not properly formatted.

What does that mean? Do I have to enter something in the box for Server? What would that be, just the URL to the website I am trying to getting going?

What did you enter for the URL?

Without downloading and installing the free FTP, I suspect you may have entered www as part of the URL. Try just entering the domain part of the URL. Something like yoursite.com and that should work.

I did download the Free FTP to my computer.
Where is there an option to put in my URL?

When I click Manage Servers...a box opens that says My Servers. Then there are these options with boxes next to the to fill in...
Nickname
Server
Username
Password

Protocol
Port
Local Folder
Remote Folder
Proxy

OK, I just downloaded the free FTP so I could check it.

When you open the free FTP, look in the top left corner for the server icon, and click that. Or you can click on file and click on manage servers. There you can enter the information.

I see what you are saying, but which "slot" do I enter my url in? Server? Nickname? something else?

Nickname is what will show in the list on the left.

Look at the attached screen shot and I think you will see what needs to be entered in the spaces. You should have a user name and password for your FTP login that your host provided to you.

hiya jenn,

local folder is not needed for the actual connection. Is your server a straight out domain? or maybe it's a subdomain? How did you enter the server name also?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
