I got this message (Error #6: Direct FTP couldn't find the specified server.) in Free FTP on computer A at site B, but my coworker who also uses Direct FTP 6.5 connects successfully using computer C at a site D. I use the same config she does and get the error msg. This msg not in User Manual. Google returns no hits (incredible!).

Illogically, I purchased Direct FTP myself for computer A. (I wanted to eliminate a variable.) I still get Error #6.

I successfully connect to the website from Computer A using raw win/dos FTP.

Any suggestions? What's happening... How to troubleshoot...

Are site B & D using the same hosting service? Might you share what service that may be? Chances are, someone else might use them too and can be more specific in troubleshooting.

Not only are B and D on different hosts, the server is on a different host as well.

I'm suspicious that this might be a DNS problem and am working that angle, but I still would like to know what "Error #6" belongs to. All the Direct FTP error codes I've seen documented are three-digit numbers.
