Is there a setting to keep Direct FTP connected for an extended period of time? My evaluation copy seems to disconnect after only a couple of minutes of inactivity, very annoying.

That might be a function of your FTP server. I have the paid version, and automatic disconnects are a fact of life. I think FTP servers, for security reasons, automatically disconnect after a certain (and too short for me!) period of inactivity.
