Direct FTP 6.9

Hello Again --

I just purchased the Direct FTP 6.9 program, because I was really impressed with how it ran during the free period.

One question: I noticed that the desktop icon has what appears to be the date of 6.9.2015 as a part of its name. Does this have any significance or meaning? Does it represent a deadline of any sorts?

Best Regards,

That's just the version number ;)
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. (Douglas Adams)

I've uninstalled CoffeeCup FTP 6.2. I've set the file properties of the .exe to run in compatibility mode (although your instructions don't state compatibility with what, so I tried Windows XP service pack three, and then Windows 7). I also chose the checkbox to run as administrator (and I am the administrator) but I continue to get the following error:

Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Wise Installation Wizard\WIS88741A~~.MSI <-- I've omitted the complete filename for the sake of brevity.

I'm not installing this from a network by the way - it's on my C: drive.

Having uninstalled the previous version I currently have no ftp program.

UPDATE: Tried running as administrator, tried setting exe to run as adminstrator for eveyone, tried not using compatibility mode, tried compatibility mode with Windows XP service pack 2 and 3, Windows 7 and Windows 2000. Still no dice. It won't install:

Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Wise Installation Wizard\WIS88741A~~.MSI <-- I've omitted the complete filename for the sake of brevity.

I've also tried installing it from two different local directories.

That didn't help. I completed all the steps advised and got the same error. I've re-installed 6.2 no issue with my installer. I think this problem might be specific to your installer package, likely a conflict with previously installed versions of the coffeecup ftp software. This is the first time I've ever encountered this error installing software on this computer. And I notice you have a thread devoted entirely to this topic so it's not an uncommon problem evidently.

After reinstalling 6.2 I found that all my ftp connections were still available. Evidently uninstalling from Add/Remove programs doesn't remove all traces of 6.2. I expect that's where the conflict comes from.

I really like coffeecup 6.2, but I'm not able to install 6.9 and I'm not in a position to spend a day trying to install your software. I'd like a refund please. Thanks.

I just received a notification from notifications@coffeecup.com that I cannot comprehend:

"You do realize (you should by the URL) that you are posting in the public forums. How are users supposed to do that. I would say format your system. Sounds like you have bigger problems that you need to address."

A. Yep, I get this a public forum.
B. I don't understand the question; "How are uses supposed to do that".
C. You seem to be suggesting I format my drive and re-install my operating system, perhaps? That seems like a lot of trouble to go to for one software package.
D. What bigger problems do I need to address? That's kind of cryptic.

I thought I was conversing with Scott Swedorski VP of Software Development at CoffeeCup on CoffeCup.com. I wasn't asking users for a refund I was asking you. But I'll happily direct that request to another employee - you're right, probably not helpful in the public forum.

What bigger problems do I need to address? This installation file is the only one I'm having an issue with - is there something in that installation path I posted that gives you pause? The old CoffeeCup software installed okay. It just didn't uninstall completely. I'm thinking that may be the source of the problem.

Hi Phil,

This is a 'public' forum. Most users here are just like you, and do not work for Coffeecup. Great thing is, some Coffeecup employees, such as Scott, do drop in and try and answer questions. Best support forum I have ever seen on the web!

I think what the previous user was talking about, not being able to do, was process a refund for you.

What you need to do is go to your name at the top of this forum page, then select 'Your Support Room'. There you can open a support topic and get direct access to Coffeecup personnel that can help you out.

I do agree with you. Whatever is causing your issue, if this one program is 'the only' program you are having an issue with then I would not format my computer either. I also know, that even though Coffeecup 'recommends' that you uninstall previous versions, I really have never done so. I just install over the old version. Some versions will 'automatically' uninstall previous versions. I just let it do it's thing and I have never had an issue.

Having said all that ... have you tried deleting the v6.9 installer you downloaded, then simply download it again and save it in a different location. Say, your desktop. Not sure where you downloaded to, but I have had problems before where the nested subdirs screwed things up. Just someting to think about and try out. It you do get it to work, please post back again and let us know as it may help out another user sometime.

Thanks, and good luck to you.
