DFTP won't "move up one folder" on...

I'm a new CC customer and bought DFTP because it would integrate with HTML Editor.

My issue is that when I am connected to the FTP site, the "move up one folder" button doesn't work. The activity bar on the bottom right of the program will appear, but nothing happens.

I know it's not a permissions issue because I can change directories using FireFTP or even the DOS FTP program.

Any ideas? Thanks.

At what level of folders are you when you can't move up?

I'm in the folder assigned to me at login - the default.

Then you are not supposed to get any further up. If the folder you are in is the same folder as you place your files and folders for the internet, you are in the public_html folder. There is one level above that, but you probably haven't been given access to it by your hosting provider. So in other words, DFTP can't take you any further up if you don't have the permission from the host.

I noted earlier that "I know it's not a permissions issue because I can change directories using FireFTP or even the DOS FTP program."

IOW, I can traverse using other programs, but not DFTP.

Well the best I can say is if you're able to get to the root directory using the other 2 programs, then they are not working properly and they are giving you access to a directory you are not supposed to have access too. This of course is only if you are already logging into the directory assigned to you as you mentioned above. No FTP program should be allowing you any deeper into the server than what you have been given access too.

Maybe I have misunderstood something. If you could give us a screen shot of the highest level you can get to in DFTP and one of the other FTP clients, it would help.

Sounds like you have something set incorrectly withing the program. Why not submit a trouble ticket and let the CC staff log into the server and see what the problem is?

Here you go. They show me connected to the FTP server.

The second FireFTP screenshot clearly shows that I can traverse. I can do it using the FTP command via the CMD (DOS) prompt too. It is not likely that they are both not working properly.

Incidentally, is there a way to display the directory tree on the remote server as FireFTP does?

DFTP default shows the tree on the remote side if there is one. Looks like the directory it is allowing you into doesn't have any "tree" to show just files.

I'm still wondering what the deal is with the access thing. Looks like other people's account files are in that root directory too. If you're the admin then there should be no issue. DFTP only takes the access you have according to the server you entered and displays it. Check your server settings in DFTP and see if you happened to enter /paul for part of your remote folder. That's the only thing I can think of that would stop that. And even then it doesn't always if you are admin, it will usually still go back to the root, just starts you in the folder you designate.

So, are you the admin? Should you actually have access to that deeper directory? If so, and if your setting doesn't have anything other than public_html in it or www, depending on your server type, then I would follow Tom's suggestion and open a ticket.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
