Hi,

FTP direct can't make a connection with the server and gives the error below.

"Received an abnormal reply to a RETR command. This happens e.g. when the server sends fewer bytes than expected. Typical situations are listings of empty directories or downloads of hidden file (filename starting with a '.'). [19] Additional information: RETR response: 425.
Server has replied: [425] Unable to build data connection: Connection timed out."

When I run FPT on my Vista computer there is no problem and there comes a connection.

The versions of FPT are the same on both computers.

So what can be the problem? When you have a suggestion I'll be glad to read.

Cheers

Try enabling show hidden files. You may be trying to upload one that got into your directory. Also check to see if you have empty directories that your trying to upload.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your response, To avoid the problem of hidden files/emty directories I placed the cursor on one of my normal html files to be ready to upload. Then tried to contact the server, but I got the same error.
So I think that can't be the problem !!!!?

I am now removing the software en download and install a fresh copie, when you have other sugestions I'll be happy tot read.

cheers

Hiya Henny,

Just uncheck the compatibility box for running it as a different operating system, and make sure the Run as Administrator is checked and it should run just fine.

Should actually run fine even with the XP mode checked, but it could be the SP2 part that is throwing it as most things like XP SP3 at the very least for running properly.

Default though your computer shouldn't be setting anything to run in any mode at all on Windows 7, you have to set that yourself if you want it to run on a different compatibility mode. Uncheck that top box though and see if that helps.

Hi Jo Ann,

Thanks voor responding. The box was unchecked and I now checked the Administrator box.
Running FTP with those settings gave two different results. For connecting to one server gave the same error as before. And while trying to connect to the other server the connect/disconnect button lighted up, but the same error came. Pushing this button to disconnect gave a new message:

"end the 1 active or pending jobs Y/N"

So it looks like I am up- or downloading some file to/from the server but that is not what I am doing as far as I know.

Cheers
Henny

ok now let me think because that error you're getting on ending is because it's not fully connecting which isn't a Windows 7 issue at this point. Check your settings and make sure you have the right info in the remote setup. Most especially make sure the ID and PW are correct. From there check to see if you have Passive turned on, if so then try turning that Off and check to see if it works. If not then try turning it On and see if it works.

I can for sure say it's in the settings somewhere for your remote account. I've redone my DFTP like 3 times over the past 8 months due to reformats and reinstalls and I've had that happen every time usually right away when I first put the servers in. I have about 10 servers right now so one of them usually does this to me where it connects but doesn't connect (looks like it does, but it really isn't, and no real error message other than the one asking if you want to end the jobs).

Also, try rebooting, I've also had wierd things happen in Windows 7 that a reboot would fix.

Let me know if any of this helps at all.

Hi Jo Ann,

It works all right now:).
The problem was the passive box, it had to be checked. So both servers are connecting now.

Thanks for helping me out, I would not have tought of it while I copied the settings from my other computer and there the box is unchecked.

hehe no worries, I go through that same gamut above when I can't get connected, you'd think I'd realize after a couple years that passive isn't needed and doesn't work for me lol.... but noooooo I check it anyways when I have issues to make sure it hasn't changed and then I forget to uncheck it... I make myself more problems than I fix sometimes LOL

I'm glad it worked for you, happy uploading/downloading :)
