I am using the lastest direct FTP (not the free) - and when I view my folders on my web server through FTP I get a statement that the folder i require my mainwebsite.html folder is only a symbolic link - does any one know why and what can I do about this

All files were uploaded direct through previous version FTP coffe cup
They are held at digitalpacific and I have never had this happen in the past

When I go direct through ny server admin - there is no hassles with the access - long and tedious however to access and upload

Jock,

You may want to click on profile and change your forum name to something other than your email address. Spammers are always looking for valid email addresses.

I know you say you have the latest version of FTP, but is this the free FTP, or Direct FTP?

If it is Direct FTP, did you download it within the last 24 hours? If not, there is a new version that was placed online July 9.

If you are using the very latest Direct FTP, you may want to open a service ticket. Go to http://www.coffeecup.com/help/ login and click on the email us a question link to submit to CoffeeCup. Be sure to return to check your question history just in case the CoffeeCup response is caught in your spam filter.

i got an answer elsewhere - i spoke to my ftp staf and they changed the direction of my login - i WENT FOR THE FILES 2 LEVELS BELOW example - my login looked for the ../../var/www/html section at my site - I changed that back to ../../var/ and then clicked on the www, folder and then the html folder and that got me into the system and avoided the link - hope that helps

Thanks Jock!

Dropping back the 2 levels did it.

With the FTP program I was using before my start folder was
/var/www/html
If I used that with Direct FTP I got the 'symbolic link'.
I tried your way, which did work, but then tried adding the /../../var/www/html/ and it brought me right to where I belonged!

Now I need to troubleshoot my other website which is on a different server (hence a different start folder set up). Hopefully the same technique will work.

Very handy to be able to do minor text editing right on the site, though I couldn't get the Preview to work. <sigh>
