Just to report no change in the 'ghosts' I reported last time a new release was made available and the software still won't install properly unless run as administrator in my Windows 7 machine ("error creating uninstaller" as reported last time as well). See my previous posts for images and information relating to these issues.

Another annoyance with this program is when installing, it doesn't look at the registry to see whether it is already installed and where; it blindly wants to install to its own default directory. This is fine if the software has never been installed but most installers these days check for existing installations and offer to install in that directory. The installer does look for previous installations so it can uninstall them anyway so it could easily be tweaked to install into the currently used directory.

As someone else pointed out. Direct FTP has its quirks and this is what makes it what it is but there is a danger that too many quirks will result in me (and possibly others) ditching it altogether in favour of a blander but more functional program.

Well I dunno, I haven't found all that many quirks with it myself, just a couple. But then I'm on Windows XP not Vista or 7 yet so I don't have half the issues most of you have, and I usually have a bunch of other issues with software that none of you have so I guess it's a good trade off LOL.

DFTP doesn't give me the grief you seem to be experiencing with it though. I've really only had one difficulty with it on the copy/paste setup on the server side of the program. That's really the only thing that stands in my way of anything, which is so minimal I can't imagine using another program just because of that.

I find the program highly useful (slow, yes) and does more than most all the other programs I tried does, especially being able to remove a directory without cleaning the darn things out! I love that you can edit within it local or server, and I love that you can save lots of bookmarks for each connection and that they are global bookmarks. I love most everything except the speed, and it's just not that important enough for me to change either I guess lol. Hopefully my thread on speed will come up with an answer some day :)

I'm running Win7 64bit and I haven't had this issue.

Dave, we are pretty sure we did fix this issue, or at least it appears fixed on our end. Could you make a video or a series of screen shots and send them to scott@coffeecup.com so I can get this to our developers?

Lucky you Tom, it happens on both my Windows 7 machines and is 100 % replicable. The fact that Scott mentions it was fixed also indicates there may have been a problem there.

As for grief Jo ann, it doesn't cause me that much; just the quirks mentioned that I happily put up with because of the redeeming features of the program. The software works as far as main functionality goes and I only report the small issues here in case my input can help; I imagine they will eventually be tidied up anyway.

Scott I will put something together and email it to you.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
