It was slow for me, too, but I am on satellite...so such is life. You did not mention if you were on dsl...almost everyone but us in the boonies is, *grins*. I will definitely test the newer version to see how it responds, though.

Very slow also is anyone going to fix this, just because not everyone complains does not mean that there is not problem. This is so slow I ready to use something else.

brent clair,

CoffeeCup is working on a new release for several of their programs. You may want to sign-up for the RSS feed so you know when a new/upgraded item is released.

http://www.coffeecup.com/software/ has a link for the rss.

I appreciate the efforts at CoffeCup, and their attempts to fix the issue. However, I switched to Core FTP Lite: http://www.coreftp.com/

It's also free. Works great. No delays.

I have had a similar problem. I started Direct FTP while holding down the shift key and created a verbose log file. I monitored the file as I performed some simple commands. I noticed that every command was delayed by 10 seconds (I used a timer).

Here is a portion of the log file (look at the line that says pre_transfer 10.328s):

8:52:30 PM: [3388:ftpWorkerThread.cpp:FtpWorkerThread::doTransfer:335]: Thread 1 starts on job 1: Type 14, Confirm 0, Protocol FTP, ResumePos 0, Passive 1
8:52:31 PM: Error: Failed to load icon from the file 'Icons/AppIcon32.ico' (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.)
8:52:31 PM: [3756:dftpMain.cpp:MainApp::PopupRemoteFoldersFillCB:1967]: Filling remote folder list popup
8:52:42 PM: [3388:ftpWorkerCmdBase.cpp:ftpWorkerCmdBase::GetFeedback:306]: Job 1 statistics: dns 0.015s, connect 0.031s, pre_transfer 10.328s, start_transfer 11.734s, total 11.921s, bytes 0.000000

All commands have a pre_transfer delay of between 10 and 11 seconds. The above command was opening a remote folder.

I also tried the exact same commands using Windows FTP.exe and no delay was detected. Any command I typed in from the command line using FTP.exe produced results after only a slight delay (less than 1 second).

This tells me that the problem lies either in Direct FTP, or a setting used by Direct FTP as a pre transfer delay (PRET?). Not all FTP sites have a 10 second delay associated with it while using Direct FTP. It is important to note that it is a combination of Direct FTP and an FTP server. Again, Microsoft's command line FTP.exe (shipped with the OS) does not have this delay with any of the combinations I've tested.

I am using Windows XP x64 Version 2003 Service Pack 2 with Coffee Cup's Direct FTP Version 6.7, Build 1808

Raymond, if you could please open a support ticket and provide us with temporary access to your server, our techs said they would look into this for you and see why there is that delay. Just reference this forum post when you open your support ticket.

You're going to have to be a little more clear. I can't find the term "ticket" even after searching the "Get Support" page.

I'm trying to help you find a problem that a number of your users are experiencing. This problem may not even be a Direct FTP problem - but we don't know that yet.
