Robb,
I did some more testing on other browsers and this is what I found:
1. Using the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera, I could not make the site 'crash' at any point, despite extensive clicking just about everywhere.
2. Internet Explorer 8 'crashed' consistently on all attempts to access the photo galleries from the lower menu bar, i.e. "Animals", "Animal Damage" and "Home Repairs".
The usual message showed up: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
(This reminded me of one of the reasons I decided to use Chrome instead of IE as my default browser! It used to happen every now and then when I was using IE, but nothing like that has ever happened for me with Chrome)
So, the problem seems to be isolated to Internet Explorer (8, only?) and photo galleries. The bad news is that I don't know what actually causes the problem, much less how to solve it. I hope someone else who may be following this thread may have some suggestions.

Robb,
Just a thought, since you built the site around July-August last year: There was an issue back then with an updated Adobe Flash Player that caused crashes of CC Photo Gallery. Take a look at this thread:

It's quite a long thread so you'll have to scroll back a bit to get to the meat of it.
What version of Photo Gallery did you use? If you did not use the latest version (v.5.94 now, I believe), this may be the problem.

An update to my original topic post and the crash error I was getting:
I've disabled all of my virus software and have uninstalled and reinstalled VSD. In one specific site I was building, I've narrowed the crash down to when editing one specific text box, on a certain page. VSD crashes, without fail, once I've selected the "advanced edit" checkbox and then click anywhere on the page to continue working.

Any ideas?
