Why is my uploaded image being...

Hi. I was having a problem with my header image ( http://www.wizzstickers.com/files/wizz- … -w-sfw.gif ) uploading to www.wizzstickers.com via the built-in FTP in VSD 6, as explained in post http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/visual- … ing-vsd-o/ . I never figured out the actual problem, but what I did was go into my "C:/Users/ADMINI~1/AppData/Local/Temp/vsd - tmpdir/files/" directory and manually added the header image file "wizz-header-no-w-sfw.gif". That at least got the image to upload and show on the webpage.

But now there is another issue with that same header image, and I don't know if it's related to my "work around" explained above. Although the header image was now uploading and showing on the webpage, the image appeared slightly misaligned. What I see now when I click for the image properties on the uploaded webpage, for the header it says, "900px × 230px (scaled to 900px × 225px)". So I assume this is what is causing the image to appear misaligned. So why is the image being scaled down now all of the sudden when it never was before? I couldn't find any other images on the page that had been scaled down. Anybody know why this is happening?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,
I would try this- rename the image with underscores ( _ ) dont know for sure if this will be the problem but worth a try, then I would remove the image as you have done, then after that go to settings - remove files- and remove that image. then re-add it save and upload. let us know please.:/

Thanks for the reply, Bruzer. I didn't try the renaming with underscores, only because lots "and lots of my other images use underscores and they are all okay and don't get "scaled to ...." Also, when I got to "Settings," "remove files" is grayed out and can't be clicked. I took out that image on every page, saved, and then put the image back in on every page, then saved, and then uploaded . . . with the same result. CC online tech support couldn't help, and they suggested I call.

Anybody else (or Bruzer) have any other ideas to try?

Thanks,

Tom

What I see now when I click for the image properties on the uploaded webpage, for the header it says, "900px × 230px (scaled to 900px × 225px)".

This means that you set the dimensions of your graphic at a different pixel dimension then what the actual image dimensions are. I do this all the time bc it increases the quality of the graphics as they appear online.

As far as being misaligned, I don't know exactly what that means. Alignment is done through HTML.

....toilet stickers huh? :P

Thanks for the reply, Chad. I do everything through VSD, so I did not do anything manually with the html prior to uploading (the foremost reason being that I don't know much about html coding). However, when I go into my control panel through my host, I can adjust the size of the header image back to its original height (230px) and adjust the absolute positioning from "top:0px" to "top:-3px" and it looks the way it is supposed to look and has always looked in the past.

As for the "alignment," what I meant was that, if you look closely, the yellow stream from the "peeing w" doesn't end in the correct place, and the "home" and "retailers" buttons are slightly off (they appear higher). As mentioned above, I can correct all this by changing the image size and the absolute positioning.

So what I'm left with is, why is VSD changing these parameters upon uploading? It was only when I converted to VSD 6 from 5.9 last week that this problem appeared. Of course, it's properly aligned and sized in VSD before uploading or previewing. I'm assuming it's somehow related to the issue described in http://www.coffeecup.com/forums/visual- … ing-vsd-o/ , which I also never figured out. For some reason, this image is causing various problems.

If anybody has any suggesting with regard to these issues, I'd be happy to hear them.

Thanks,

Tom

Well you site looks nice and I understand your having to fix items to make it work, is it possible Tom for you to make a test site with no changes added so we can see what it is exactly how you see it? If you need a server to upload to let me know I let you use one of mine. :)

Thanks for the response, Bruzer. The website that is currently up has no changes and is how it looks when directly uploaded from VSD built-in FTP. The problems with the header image may seem minor, but, of course, it drives me nuts, particularly when they did not appear until I started using VSD 6 last week.

The specific problem is that the header image is being scaled down heightwise from 230px to 225px, and it is three pixels too far down. In the past, the header image was always aligned as top:0px (as it still is now). But now, after using VSD 6, it only lines up right if I change it to top:-3px. f you look closely, the yellow stream from the "peeing w" doesn't end in the correct place, and the "home" and "retailers" buttons are slightly off (they appear higher). You can see the red box around "home" and "retailers" protrudes slightly over the thick horizontal red line (which is part of the same header image). I know these are minor, but it's new since using VSD 6 last week. Could the whole problem be that VSD 6 is moving the image down a few pixels, so it thinks it has to shrink the height to make it fit?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Tom,
quick question! does everything line up when you remove the animation "W"?
since those are 2 seperate images could that maybe be pushing everything out of wack? I noticed the buttons too!
Oh and where is the peeing"W" suppose to end? lol

Bruzer:

I've never tried uploading it without the "W" animation. Maybe I can try that later. But, again, I've had this website up for 3 years, and this whole problem just started when I converted to using VSD 6 last week. So, even if it is the "w" animation, I'm not sure what the solution would be. I may have to relent and call tech support. I could just go into my cpanel with my host and change the html, but there are 60 pages, and I update often.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom that might not be a bad idea to call support on this, but I just uploaded in VSD using your images, and no change was apparent size wise, but I do not have your menu or any other items being used, this is why I asked, I also thought of trying to convert to flash for the wizzing, and then maybe the menu under it. You should check with CC support first just to see if they can do a better job of helping you.:)
