Why is a Download folder created with...

yeah - but moving any file around will result in this error even when just using an html editor. It makes no difference if it's an absolute or relative. If I move an image to a different folder, the code will hiccough whether in VSD or Joe's Fried HTML editor. So, I'm back to why? Or why one but not both? Or just, give me the choice to use one or the other rather than be tied to relative links in one case and absolutes in the other. Doesn't VSD have to jump through hoops to translate that absolute link to a relative link once it gets uploaded?

Geez. I need to go get my coffee. I sound snippy and I don't mean to. I'm not in a bad mood or upset. Just befuddled at the "necessity" of the differences. I am not OCD but I really dislike apparent inconsistency unless I know a good reason for it. Mostly because I have a somewhat disorganized mind and want my tools to make up for that.

At the moment I'm wondering why the heck my MS mouse keeps shutting off in the middle of my work (which has nothing to do with this thread or VSD. Just with my impatience with inconsistency. Windows!)

Hello Kc,

Can't really state specifics as I did not create the application. As far as I know it is because VSD is linking to an external file directly, and all images are referenced internally through the .vnu file using the image tool.

I agree with you when you state it should link the same with all files, but the developers stated their was an issue with linking to external files directly such as .doc, .pdf, etc. which is why it must behave in this manner.

That's enough for me. Like I said, with a rational explanation, I can accept anything. :)

now to go figure out why my upload failed entirely.

Well, I am also really confused and frustrated with this entirely unnecessary in my view, Download folder. I used V.S.D. to upload the site (rather than another FTP program) and now when I go back to edit the site on the computer, I keep getting the message the program can't find the files and I redirect it to the folder I created for Images. Very frustrating.

I think I'll go back to manually editing HTML and continue using an old copy of Dreamweaver. if it wasn't for this program creating this Download folder, it would be a great program to use as I like the end result. The site is www.sunbeamtalbot.info

Robert, If you move or delete any of the files or images added to your site from their original location you will get this error. Place your images and any other external files added to your site in a dedicated folder where you know not to move them or delete them unless you have manually removed them from your site.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I thought VSD V7 got rid of that problem, because it now creates its own saved copy off all the files and images etc.

Eric please correct me if i am wrong, but i just checked trevors wedding car site, on sdrive, and on my pc it has all the images in a folder which could only have occurred when i did a save as to rename it for 2011 before uploading to SDRIVE.

And you know i get the facts all confused :(

Hi Eric,

I have created folders for the Images I have on the site and haven't moved any of them however when I go to save the project, it is looking for the files I originally had in their own folders, in the Download folder. Why is it doing this and it looks like it also creates another folder which is a copy of the original folder?

Just confusing to me but perhaps this is all explained in the Help files somewhere showing how the program handles files when you "Publish" the web page.

Thanks, Bob

Go to the place on your pc where you saved the .vnu file

In the same folder should be another folder with the browser html files

and in that folder is another folder which VSD creates automatically with a copy of all your images in

check that folder to see if all your images are in there if not you need help and possibly a support ticket will be the best option

Ok, I see where I went wrong. I saw this Download folder and a new folder (same name as main folder) with images created which includes the images and HTML files so I thought they were duplicates and not required so Deleted them. Duh! I restored them to their original location and all is well.

Thanks to everyone for the assistance. Very much appreciated.

Bob
