Hi. My name is Shawna. I have a small fibre etsy shop (think yarn and knitting but actually spinning your own yarn). I want to make a simple website to put on my business cards. It will mainly be a landing page to direct people to my etsy shop. I am not ready to have my own e-commerce site. But I am going to set up a blog/news/gallery page too as time allows.

I downloaded the trial version of visual site designer a couple of weeks ago. I loved it. Today I bought it. I have the start of a site designed.

How do I get it on the internet?

I haven't got the faintest idea what I am doing but I am a fast learner. I am confident I can do this I just need a little guidance.

I got my domain name and hosting through Telus. They have website templates but they are really ugly and out dated looking.

Clearly the simplest method would have been looking into S-drive and doing it all through CoffeeCup but it is too late for that as I have already paid Telus.

Can some one point me in the direction of a tutorial please?

Thank you so much!

Shawna

Hey there!

Here is what I would like you to do.

1. Go to the Publish Menu and select FTP Account Settings and click the +.

2. Enter the account information provided to you by Telus and make sure the Remote Folder path is not empty. Typically you would enter in a / or /public_html here but you need to confirm with your hosting provider what the correct path is. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THIS PATH IS CORRECT.

3. Go to the Publish Menu and select Choose a Publishing Destination and select your FTP Account and then click Save.

4. Finally, go to the Publish Menu and select Re-Sync Website.

With any luck, your website will now be online.

Look at that! A publish button right inside VSD. That is a start... now I need to go figure out my account information. I am so relived I don't have to use Telus' file manager pro program cause it is so unfriendly looking.

Thank you for your fast response... I am off to find account information... it can't be that difficult to find, right?

ok, I have a primary, secondary and tertiary hostnames, each with their own IP address. I know my domain name and password... so I think I just have to find the remote folder path. This might take a phone call to tech support.

Do I just need to use the primary hostname? Or is that all completely different from my FTP account settings? I am feeling dumber by the minute...

READ READ READ, then buy

I think you missed the part with your purchase of VSD that it included free hosting

You just needed to select your CC account, add your email address and password, click publish.

PS its Christmas, most people are out shopping, travelling, or like me taking a long rest having burn't myself out supplying all my Christmas orders, from my SCCP shop

Good luck with your project, you will undoubtedly get a better response in the forums from January 2nd
Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement
