http://validator.w3.org/
I read in another thread that to check your site for validation W3C errors you could go to the above site and get it to check your site.
I did that and it came up with four validation errors.
As I'm using VSD how do I sort out the validation errors as everywhere you read it says that if you have them the search engines don't like them.
As I'm using VSD I'm not up-to-play with coding obviously so could someone point me in the right direction.
The errors it came up with are:
NET-enabling start-tag requires SHORTTAG YES
document type does not allow element "STYLE" here
end tag for element "HEAD" which is not open
document type does not allow element "BODY" here

Thanks.

P.S Should they actually happen when your using VSD or have I done something wrong?

Well VSD should create a validated page... do you have any external HTML code embedded on your page? That could throw off the validation.

Amanda,

This may be due to something you added.

What version of VSD are you using?

Do you have a link to the site?

Did you add anything with the HTML tool? Style belongs between the <head> and </head> tags. If you added any style and did not specify the head section, you could have those errors.

Hi
Link to site is www.gwhiz.co.nz.
I have not coding experience - just build them through VSD for clients. The only thing I've added is the google analytics coding for statistical purposes.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Chad
Umm, nope - have not added anything extra that I'm aware of anyway.

Amanda,

Any idea what this code is?
<!--html inserted by user -->
<meta name="verify-v1" content="mr6uadEkJg4HNElgEn20LSA+oONvvAkxq+mn49jjUsU=" />
<!--end of html inserted by user -->

You are probably valid other than this single line of code. If you copied this and added it, you should remove the / at the end of that line of code. If you did not add it, I have no idea where it came from.

Could that be your Google verification code?

Hi
Yes it is the google analytics code. I've removed the / and redone the validation test and BOOM IT'S SORTED.

OMGoodness THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help! :D

Amanda,

Glad you have it sorted out.

I use Google Analytics, and that is not part of the code I use. Could that be something you used to verify the site with Google?

hi again Bill
I've whipped through most of the sites I've recently created and your help has either enabled the sites to validate but for others while it has reduced the errors it hasn't validated.

Can you help with these other sites too please?

www.broganbuilders.co.nz
www.nrafudnz.co.nz
www.accuratelabels.co.nz

All three refer to errors within the swf flash files.

I would truly appreciate your help.

Thanks
Manda
