OK, no wonder I'm having problems!
For example my text properties dialog box is cut off on the right hand side and the bottom. I have been trying to get my text to align flush right, centered, etc and all those options are cut off on the dialog box.

Do I need to alter a setting somewhere or what?

never mind, I fixed it, changed my resolution, I had forgotten that I changed it, because everything is so small at this resolution I cant read anything!

I hear that from a lot of people, but are you aware that you can actually create your own setup for your desktop? Almost all windows versions, and most especially vista and 7, have a setup in their display properties area where you can tell it all kinds of things like Font sizes, Icon sizes and spacing etc. Play with that and create a new little profile for a theme and that should fix your issue until you change your theme
