The best permanent solution to this issue is to change the compatibility setting so that VSD will "always" launch with "Run as Administrator" privileges.

To do this, right click the shortcut, click Properties, in resulting window, click Compatibility tab and then in Privilege Level area, check the box beside "Run this program as an administrator" and click OK to confirm & save.

I've attached an image of the setting.

Dave :)

Hi,

I was just about to seek information on that topic. I have had to reinstall VSD everytime I tried to open it. I also have Win 8 and it was doing as described by Ronnie Smith.

The solution came without my asking. You guy's are good.

I am having no end of trouble with Windows 8. When I try to publish I am getting a blank black screen and the only solution is to reboot the computer using the on/off switch on the box. I can alt+tab to see each running program but they disappear on mouse click. Sometimes all of my website files have been deleted. I can restore them, and re-synching gets it all back together. But, overall, I have had enough. I can't work with this. There is additional problem that I could live with if everything else worked. This is that I am being told it can't find files for download. In actuality these files are not needed; they derive from an older version where I used a Flash menu. But that menu was removed, and before my Win8 computer, I never got that message. Ignoring the message doesn't cause any harm and my website will get published correctly. But it is a nuisance.

I don't use Win8 but I know we have some users here that do use it. Hopefully they will chime in soon. While you're waiting, you might open a support ticket with CoffeeCup and see if they have any similar problems reported. Just go to the Support button at the top, then select 'Your Support Room' and open a ticket. Hopefully they will be able to help you get it sorted out.

I've seen the black screen appear when clicking publish in VSD and the computer seemingly being unresponsive. Mousing over the bottom left corner will show windows open and I can go back to the main screen of windows and click another app but the window stays black. I get this randomly and only since upgrading to win 8 and only when clicking publish in VSD.:) I haven't reported it to Scott as I figured it was only me. I would open a support topic if you can replicate on regular basis.;)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Good to see others have it. It as now happened at least four times. Initially I thought it was a passing thing because the next time was fine. But it happened three times yesterday. I did see this similar post on the topic called Windows 8 Pro. It does allude later to a solution but what was done is unclear.

Hi,

I just installed windows 8 pro and got the following problem:
When I uploaded my website to S-Drive the screen got black and I could not get VSD back on the screen.

I also couldn't close VSD on the toolbar.

I had to restart my laptop.

I could see the upload went well.

Do I have to set something right to be able to use VSD and Windows 8?

Cheers
Henny

Didn't work. I opened a ticket and followed instructions to reinstall. It worked immediately after but the black screen of death re-appeared following even basic maneuvers (like clicking on an image). I gave up and installed on my laptop (Win 7, 32 bit), and all is fine. My desktop is Win8, 64 bit. I looked at other software, but for three reasons: relearning, recreating, and VSD options, I am sticking with VSD. It has its quirks but we get along pretty well now, and I'm not after anything extremely fancy.

I think it's a video card issue as I haven't seen it in a while. It wouldn't be Windows if it didn't have some kind of quirks.
