It is not out of the question that I am dumb so please say so....here goes.
I have started using VSD. I find it very complicated frankly - is there a real idiots guide somewhere? I must admit I have an aversion to reading any help guides since software is meant to have evolved to the point where they are not needed.

However, I am sure I will get through. Here are the core questions.
I want to build a site where people can register themselves with a username and password and then get access to a personal page where they can upload stuff (images). I want to resize the images when I display them but obviously store full size ones somewhere.
I want to be able to let anyone browse the site, see things they like and then buy them but only registered people can post. Registration will involve lots of details. I would like to use Paypal too.
Which software do I need in addition to VSD? Can I build this one my machine and test it or must it be uploaded to another machine (like a server on my hme LAN) first?

Probably pretty self-evident questions for the cogniscenti but not me..

thanks

Hi Stuart,

I believe there are several elements to what you are trying to achieve, and while i do not use coffee cup for my actual site design, i use a lot of there software for certain elements of sites that i design and develop.

I believe that all should be possible with all of the coffee cup software. It just depends how much knowledge you have and what your budget is.

i would say the following if you are on a tight budget.

1. design the site with coffee cup VSD of HTML editor
2. create a registration form with coffee cup form designer
3. put any member pages in a sub folder off of the root and protect it using htaccess file with the username and password they endered in the registration process, then create a link to the files (index.htm or example) within the sub folder. Then when the use clicks the link they will be presented with a log on box.
3. use Coffee cup photo gallery for the image library, this will give you a number of options for sizing images but when clicked on can display larger etc...
4. Use coffee cup shopping cart for the purchasing side of things with the paypal optional add on.

Hope that helps, post back if you need any other advise.

Cheers
Dan
