VSD upload problem - Post ID 85475
Trying to upload website to http://www.kent.lwvmd.org. My computer is dying and I have transferred my websites to a laptop. Had to reenter several pictures and pdf files, but finally got it saved. When I uploaded it the first time, it looked like a list of pages. So, I saved it again and reuploaded. This time the pages are there, but absolutly no pictures. what have I done?? and what can I do to fix this?? Some files I put in shared docs on the dying computer and transferred them to shared web on laptop and used those files to replace some missing files. So confused. I tried to test the connection on the dying computer, but it said "the currebt socket connection has been reset"
What does that mean? I hope someone has an idea of how to fix this. Thank you for any help. Sarah

Morning: This morning when I did the test for connection it worked right away. I uploaded the site from the old computer and it went like it was suppoaed to. So, I imagine the problem must have been with the server and with transferring the site to the laptop. At some point I will have to try using the laptop to upload and hope it works ok. For now, all is well.
Sarah,
You are using VSD. Make sure the VSD file structure on your laptop is identical to the vsd file structure on your new computer. The location of every image used is stored in the vnu file and if you change computers, VSD will be looking for the images to be in the same relative locations.

Thanks Bill, I tried to do that, but I messed it up and kept adding to the shared docs. every time I found something that I had forgotten. I think I need to be a little more organized. Also, I noticed that when I was uploading from the laptop when it got to the part where it says do you want to remove the deleted objects I said yes and it deleted all the pictures and images. So then, when I uploaded from the main computer it replaced them all. I resaved the site on the laptop and I think it's ok now, but I'm afraid to try to upload from it. I need to reformat the drive on the main computer, so I'm going to try to keep the site up to date and hurry with the reformating. I'm waiting to reformat until the program I bought to save applications is finished. It's now at 68% and has been running for a week. ?? so, we'll see what happens. Hopefully after the reformat everything will be in order. I have saved everything on the computer with a clickfree external hard drive. Then I will save the application data on an external hard drive and then,...well, try, try again. I seem to be learning as I go. Thanks for your help. Sarah
Sarah,
If you use the most recent version of VSD 6.0.5, it will fix many problems. Also, VSD will now upload the VNU file. When you are using two or more computers, you need to be sure to download the most recent VNU file before making changes. You can use one of the CoffeeCup FTP programs to download the latest VNU file on you website.

Thank you Bill, I never thought of downloading the site to make it match. Thanks. I've been updating both computers as I go along, but guess it makes a difference since I would be uploading from a different computer. Always learn something new. this forum and you are great. Thanks. Sarah
