VSD program. Directory has no...

Me again. First, I tried the HTML program and didn't know enough about the terms, etc. So I ordered a book on HTML, and while it's arriving I switched to VSD. I created and published my home page consisting of a background color and a picture inserted at the top of the page. It "published successfully" and looked very nice.

Then I used the Flash Menu Builder and created 3 buttons, thinking they would go onto that page. (No?) When I published that, I lost my one page, and the menu disappeared into oblivion.

Looking at the file structure through my host's file manager, I could see that all the menu files went in alongside my stonycreekstore folder, rather than inside it, and when I attempted to access stonycreekstore.com, where my page had previously resided inside the stonycreekstore folder, I got a message saying the site had no index.html file.

I fiddled with all that to no avail, then under SETTINGS and with an FTP program I removed the website and all the files. I tried rebuilding and republishing a couple more times, and never succeeded in obtaining that elusive index.html file which had appeared with my one successful publication.

Currently I'm at the point where I have created the home page with the background and one inserted picture and have uploaded it. And now I intend to sit here until the cavalry comes over the hill. I meekly ask for any help at all. JoDee

This is just guessing, but could it be that you haven't set the upload to go into the www folder of your domain? Sometimes the folder is called public_html. Everything that is supposed to be displayed on the web has to be placed in that folder.

Guessing is fine with me. I've worked on this all day for three days straight and my brain is cobwebbed. I'll recheck the upload pathway. Thank you.

It says it is uploading to stonycreekstore.com/public_html. There is still nothing inside the stonycreekstore internet folder except three folders of images which I placed there.

One level up, under public_html with all my other stuff, including a successfully created website using mostly an older version of VSD, is this file(ftp://stonycreekstore.com/public_html/d … ore-v6.php)

Also at that location is an index.html file which contains the background I chose for my one page, but not the inserted image. It got close, but slightly missed the mark. The image which should go on the page is located both local and in one of the aforementioned 3 folders.

Make sure you have only entered in /public_html in the WWW folder and not stonycreekstore.com/public_html That could be the issue. A simple test would be to use an FTP client and FTP into your server and verify the correct folder and see where you should be uploading everything to.

Scott, things are looking up, thanks to you. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

In my local working folder I found a subfolder titled "stonycreekstor-v6_website." Inside this local subfolder was an index.html file. I FTP'd the index.html into the server public_html/stonycreekstore folder, and now I can once again see my page when I go to www.stonycreekstore.com.

Now, before I screw up further, the next step is to add the three menu buttons to this page. The local files and folders which were created during the creation of the buttons are in my local STONYCREEK FOLDER. Uploading this did not work.

How do I get the menu buttons onto my page?

Just an update to say that I did get the menu buttons on the page, along with the picture and background. I wanted the menu buttons on the bottom edge of the picture, but apparently that is not an option.

I just wanted to say thanks to the help, this particular issue is fixed. Don't despair. I'm sure it won't be long till I am run over by another one. JoDee

The stonycreekstor-v6_website folder should never be on your website. That is something that only should be on your local computer. It sounds like you manually uploaded that. If you are manually uploading you need to take the contents of stonycreekstor-v6_website and upload that to your server.

If you upload with VSD, it will do this automatically for you.

I would first worry about getting your site online correctly and then tackle the menu stuff.

Scott, Scott, Scott....... And I thought I was done.

If I try to upload my webpage with VSD, I get the problems outlined earlier. Before coming here for help, I cleared all the files from the server and reloaded through VSD probably half a dozen times, that being the total of all the ways I could find to change one possible problem at a time.

I suspect the way that v-6 folder got onto my computer was that I moved it there by FTP before one of the purging sessions, so I'd have it around for whatever purposes.

I would like for the site to be done correctly. Yet I hesitate to mess up what I've got by going back and uploading through VSD.
