VSD not using common images for every...

On a normal website, all pages using the same images for their background, etc. call for the same image in the images folder e.g. background01.jpg. There may be 100 pages but they all call for that one same image when a page is loaded.

VSD appears to take each page and save a new jpg image for each page. So when a page is loaded, a new graphic of the same original image is loaded. So if you have 100 pages all using the same image when you design it, you end up with 100 images. So every time you load a page, you also load a new graphic so every page lags and is slow.

example. crosswaystolife.org

Same background, masthead, etc. but for each page its a different jpg file loaded uniquely for every page. when you go to a new page, the text is instant but the bg lages and loads. Looks stupid IMHO.

What a pain, is there a way around this so?

I don't know what a normal website is but the images being different for each page is probably being caused by some other elements or objects on your page overlapping the original image. Try making a few pages with just the header image by itself and see if the same thing happens. I've made sites with VSD that use the same image src for all pages.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I know what you mean John.

I maintain a site that has about 60 pages. I have exactly the same buttons for navigation on each page, exactly in the same location. However, VSD creates separate objects for each button. The same happens to similar pages with the same background.

Since VSD is visual, I don't know how to go in and set a "reference" to a particular background image and then just use that reference on each page. I end us using the "Add image" tool and I think that is where the problem lies.

If you select the pages tool when you start a new project from scratch, and open the pages property window, at the bottom you have the option to select your background image and instal it

Bullet mark image, select top center

And this will load automaticall in every new page, if you select home page option when creating a new page.

I reduced your background image for you, see attached again

Viv I think you have the best answer. Pictures that are too large in size cause VSD to run slow. I always compress pictures and images. Another way to minimize duplicate images is to use copy/paste on pages. After I create a header, footer, etc I copy it and then paste it to every page it needs to be on.
