VSD is acting wonky

Everything was fine this morning, but tonight I can't copy and paste anything
I had started a list of links earlier and when I tried to add another one, the Links box wouldn't let me paste the URL in. Then I tried to copy various items to a new page (text, graphics); no go. Whether using key shortcuts or the edit menu, it won't work.
Also, I tried using the fill tool on some text and that wouldn't work although it did earlier today.

I've tried re-starting VSD, tried shutting down/re-starting the computer, just tried downloading VSD...
Any ideas????

From what you said and I have had strange things happen. Try copy and Paste in Notepad It is a basic Windows command.
One fix if all fails is a system restore to a day or so ago. Sounds like a Windows fault developed. I have had executables fail to activate.
You said you downloaded VSD but did you uninstall first before re installing
2 Last suggestions
Wave a hammer in front of the computer muttering threats Works for me
Open and enjoy that bottle of red you have been saving for a special occasion

If none of that does the trick send me return air fares and I will come and help with the wine

I'm going to try the un-install/re-install again.
Did some Windows updates come out today? (That would be Tuesday for all of you in the future :D)
The last time there were some major Windows updates, my computer could no longer auto-connect to the home wi-fi :o

I like the hammer in one hand, wine bottle in the other back-up plan.
Prism, I'd be long done with the wine by the time you got here :P

No luck with the re-install.
I can copy/paste from other sites and files into notepad.*** It's just in VSD that it won't work. I did a preview (in Firefox) and copied the URL, opened IE9, clicked CTR+V in the URL bar and got nothing.
So it's every possible copy/paste situation possible from within VSD.

*** Not anymore. Did a re-start after the re-install. I just tried copying/pasting a link into this post – no go. Tried some text and links into notepad – nothing.

I can't even copy a line of text from above and paste it in here :o

(from the future... :) )
The Tuesday update seems to be quite a bit bigger than usual. On my admittedly slow connection (see illustrative avatar), the downloading has been going on all morning and is not done yet...
If it ever gets done, I'll let you know if I see copy/paste problems similar to yours, in which case we can just blame it all on MS and wait for a 'corrective update'... :P

After installing 21 Windows updates at 105 Mb ( :o ), everything seems to work fine here, including the copy/paste functionality. (Windows7 Pro 32bit)
Did you try some of the other things, like:
- Run CCleaner
- The Windows Troubleshooter routine (Control Panel > System and Security > Find and Fix Problems; I never had much success with this one myself, but as a last resort it may be worth a try...)

Paintbrush, heres a useful cure for lots of problems, which makes no sense whatsoever but since a techy friend of mine told me about it it has cured no end of problems for me.

Open a new windows account as a new user :: try your VSD in there and see if its working, if it is theres a way to open new account carrying everything from your present account into it.

it often speeds alsorts of things up in the process , i always delete the old account once i am sure everything is up and running corectly.
Started using CC VSD in January 2009, I don't do HTML code, Sales from CC site exceeding expectations taken me out of semi-retirement

there is a problem there and it points to a Windows fault.

I would suggest you go for a system restore after saving your work to disk. Back to before you had the problem. If all ok do a proper system restore point if not then it is only time you lost and you can undo the restore. If it was working ok it will then. Could be a corrupted update. Not sure if they can be rolled back

I suppose you do not take System images once per week. I have three in rotation. I of all people have crashed my system in more ways than It would seem possible.
This may help

Now my offer still stands and I will bring some good Aussie Wine plenty of legs, sticks to the glass

I stayed up 'til 4am trying all kinds of stuff. Got up at 7am and found a bunch of Windows updates waiting.
So far, nothing works. (C-Cleaner, Malware Bytes, IObit tools, latest Java update, run System File Checker, numerous shut down/restarts).
There's one thing I haven't been able to do; go to Start > Run > Services.MSC and make sure Clipboard is on automatic/enabled. I don't have 'Clipboard' listed in there and a search turns up nothing.

I was hoping not to have to do the system restore thing, but that seems to be the only option left. I've done it before (to try and get my wi-fi connection back), but didn't save anything first :P. Didn't lose anything, but it didn't fix anything either.

Prism – How about a short lay-over for you and your hammer? You could visit Microsoft headquarters before we tuck into that wine :D
