Help!!!

I'm getting this message (see title) when I try to preview or upload my pages. The program then does as promised and closes. Here are the details and what I've tried thus far:

Started: Today (Jan 5, 2009) - worked fine yesterday

Re-installed: reinstalled latest version and rebooted

Re-download: Re-downloaded latest version (same as I had) and proceeded to uninstall, re-boot, re-install.

Checked forums for similar issues.

Operating system is Win XP and as I mentioned, VSD worked fine yesterday.

Any suggestions?

I was having the same thing..
I found it was microsoft that was the problem, Its the way it processes the information.
I went into Microsoft and updated .. If you are using Windows search engine top Left side is a tools button, Left click and a small window comes down and click on Windows update.. .. since I have done that, it all has been good "touch wood"

Sometimes HTML code will also cause it.. especially when you go to preview or even save.. Delete and renew codes.. i know its a pain , I have found that since initially using some codes, they have actually changed..and when that happens my website wont preview..

XP is getting as touchy as Vista lately..
Vista I cant even open VSD.

I hope that helps otherwise, you may have to wait for an expert in all this.

Good Luck

I ran Microsoft updates to make sure I had the latest known updates for my puter. I'm current on everything the the MS scan found. All to no avail.

Do you recall any specific update? It's just baffling because it happened just out of the blue. I even tried creating a new site, very basic from scratch for fear my current files had been corrupt. Still didn't work.

I'm baffled!!

Thanks for the reply.

Was there an update to your antivirus? A recent update to one well known antivirus...the name of which escapes me right now....has made the antivirus behave differently. It learns which programs you use most often, and blocks some functions until you use the program more often, so that it attempts to stop things from working in case it's a program that you did not launch.
Anyway, it seems to block anything with ftp capabilities up to a few times until it's sure that the program means no harm....pain in the butt if you ask me.

Anyway, the update could be causing issues so try 1 time with the antivirus shutt off just in case and see if it runs better. If that fixes it, contact your antivirus software manufacturer and notify them of the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion Cliff. I tried it with anti-virus off and still got the same error.

Donna had mentioned it could be a Microsoft issue and I believe that is more likely. The error message comes from MS and asks you to send the log. I do every time.

I have also visited the MS site to check for applicable updates and there are none.

Per CC support I also ran a registry cleaner and installed a freshly downloaded copy of VSD and still get the same results.

It appears I'm stuck at this point.

Hmmmm I just tried to click on Create New Website first....then cancel. Then VSD opened and then I clicked in "file" to open MY website and it actually opened without a problem. Try that!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't crash or anything.

I've not had any problem opening site files or the VSD itself. It's only the Preview and Upload that I get the error message.

I'm still able to save everything and then upload manually via a stand alone ftp program. It would just be nice to see all my mistakes before I actually upload them.

Cheers and thanks for the reply T.

If anyone else finds a solution please post!!

Ok now after I opened and canceled yesterday and was able to work on my website...today I tried the usual way by double clicking VSD and it worked right! No error message. I'll let you know if it comes back.

I used to have the same problem... and I found this morning a solution in this forum...

When you want to open VSD make a right click on the programm and choose "start it as an administrator"... I haven't had any problems since.
