Hi Scott,
You're right! Your last reply is from Feb 2008, but the Ashlyn's question is from the 13th of May 2009!
I upgraded from 5.9 to 6.0 last week and basic stuff is OK (also FTP upload). But and because it was already working with 5.9, I can only say that 6.0 is not "destroying" previous settings like upgrading from 5.0 to 5.6 did in 2006! (see my reply before)
But that's all "old" coffee! Now we're using 6.0 and I will certainly post comments if I discover some issues in the near future.

I experience the same FTP error using VSD 6.0 right now.

Hi MMedia Man
As "Testing Server and Logon" is successful, you're not concerned by this thread: it's for sure only a problem of credentials. Check if the user given for ftp connection has sufficient rights to create files and folders. At least, when it's not the case, try to add this user to a group that has these rights.
When the credential's problem is solved and you still have this kind of error, it's probably because the ftp home dir doesn't exist or (again) doesn't give the user the "write" permission.
Hope it will help!

Thanks for the reply. I have been using the same credentials in my FTP program FileZilla and FlashFXP to upload files into the already existing folder. I only copied the credentials to VSD and certainly double checked them.
As per the VSD message above, it gets past the login which tells us the credentials are good. So if I am using the same credentials in other FTP programs to create folders, then it follows that the username has the necessary permissions.
Thanks

Another clue may be that when I change some parameter such as adding a slash at the end of the folder name (just for grins) and do the test, the error comes back so fast that I don't think VSD ftp is really trying to reach the destination. The error comes back pretty much immediately. I don't even see my HDD light flicker.

there will be a new version in June if you can last using filezilla or whatever you use to upload, I am having the same problem, but also use Direct ftp to upload , and your correct if you set up the ftp in VSD as you did in the other ftp's then it's not the premissions.

I don't have access to VSD right now and it's been a while since I set up my FTP configurations so I don't remember: what does the settings menu ask for in terms of target folder? Does it tell you just to leave it blank to go to the default location?

Assuming you specify "html/test" (without ") as folder, the transfer will be done in the test folder but caution: the new (6.0) VSD integrated FTP transfer MUST be able to create folders! To be sure, try to create one with filezilla or your favorite FTP tool: when it works, then VSD may be the problem!
Note that the "response" time or HD activity LED are no more significant today as most OSes and programs are extensively using memory caching.
When you think that VSD is faulty, then try the above trick with the http://upload.coffeecup.com/pics/vsd_ftp_fix.zip download. Read my comment above about the faulty batchfile and replace the dlls after a system reboot (don't do it after a trial with VSD as the dlls are loaded in memory and can't be overwritten!). Let me know if you have problems.

My idea was VSD claims you can leave the target directory blank to get to public_html but if I remember correctly it lies, and you have to specify from your root. I might be wrong.
