VSD: Failing to Upload - Post ID 4371

I was able to upload my new site initially from VSD. There are some serious problems with jpegs being positioned wrongly, however, so I need to do some testing by uploading different versions of the files and then checking them. Because the page files will be changed, I'm assuming the numbering of IMG files may also change. So I can't upload using my usual ftp client -- I need to do it directly from VSD.

But I can't. Now VSD consistently gives me an error box that says, "The program could not gain access to enter and read the content of a catalog on the server. Many different thing (sic) can cause this so you should try again later."

If I try testing the connection, the testing box says this:

Testing Server and Logon... OK
Testing Folder Creation... ERROR
..........
Error: An unknown error has occurred.

I don't know why VSD should be trying to create a folder; no new folders will be needed! But that's what the message says.

I'm sure there must be some simple explanation. Can anyone help me fix it? I've tried changing the "WWW folder" field in the Internet Connection box to a dummy folder name, or leaving that field blank -- that doesn't help.

May I ask who your hosting provider may be?
Do you have the latest version of VSD?
Have you tried to uninstall it, restart then reinstalling it to see if that would help?
Sorry for so many questions.Just trying to narrow it down some.
Also could try just the hec of it /myfiles in the WWW spot just to see what happens.

who's your service provider may I ask?
and MIDI you can make the changes in VSD and use the external ftp to upload , just select all the file and include the files folder and just upload after you saved your changes

Hi Midi,

Only to tell you that I also met the problem "Testing folder creation Error!" with VSD. Before it worked perfectly! Now, CC released version 5.83 and I thought they will have a solution! Unfortunately, after upgrading, my FTP connection was still faulty!
Because "uploading with an external FTP program" is OK, but not a "clean" solution (otherwise why would have CC people created the upload feature?), I tried to get a solution:
On the forum, I saw only persons having upload problems but no fix! So I began to search by myself... and now my FTP connection is restored.
So far I see, the fault is by VSD... and not my computer, my site settings or my host provider!
If you still have this problem... let me know!

what needs to go in the www folder field is the folder that all your files upload to on your ftp server. If you are using a web hosting service, they should be able to tell you the destination file. I had problems with that with the last VSD update, because I put the destination folder on my website, and that's not the one VSD wants. Once I put the correct path, it wasn't a problem.

If you are having upload issues, can you please give this a try. Download http://upload.coffeecup.com/pics/vsd_ftp_fix.zip and run the included batch file. This will manually register a few dll's

Make sure VSD is not running when you do this.

I can't get the upload to work either. I just tried the above fix and it still doesn't work. It says that it uploaded completely and my changes aren't there. When I test my connection it works fine. I don't have a www folder that it's supposed to ftp into, so that field is blank. I've tried deleting my temp. internet files per one of the FAQ's. I can view my changes on the internet if I ftp them "manually". With the new version there are now files that aren't just img*.jpg, but there are actual filesnames and mo_img*.jpg. Which files do I need to manually ftp? Seems like duplicates or did the new version rename some old img files?? It's taking longer to ftp than it did before I loaded this new version is why I'm wondering. Thanks!
Sorry I don't know a lot about the forum - not sure if I should put everything in this section.

Hi,
I'm using Bravenet,Yahoo,Lunarpages,Godaddy as my host service and have had no problems to speak of. what Is Yours?
I noticed sense you brought this up that my files folder has images also named the same as the images but can only assume that this reason is because I used the "add files" wizard. Plus it makes and renames them also.
If you wish to upload using the external FTP then I would suggest selecting everything in your in your website folder and just choose the option to overwrite. would be quicker until you can find out why in VSD you can't upload. If you have alot of files and images I could suggest a way to clear out your files folder without losing anything but the duplicate images.
NOTE: MAKE A BACK UP BEFORE STARTING
To do this open your website folder, now minimize it.
Now open VSD / your project or website and minimize that. now select everything and delete it completely.now minimize that folder and maximize VSD and save. you have a fresh folder again, this can also be done online.
not recommended by coffeecup, i do this all the time, every month.
