VSD- Error Uploading? - Post ID 75642
Hello, I have been using VSD for 4 years now. I now have the newest version. I have never seen the problem I am having now out of nowhere. My site, www.ShilohChristianFootball.com , is updated about 4-5 times a week. Well, I went to do updates yesterday, and when I went to publish the following happens.
-It goes through the normal "building site on your computer"
-The normal trying to establish connection comes up, and I get a connection
-Here is the bad part, when the publish progress screen appears it will say "Pages...." , then immediately when it hits the first page which is "Home" it brings up the "An error has occured" box, thus cancelling the publsihing.
So, I ran a test connection and here is what I am seeing:
"-Testing Server and Logon.......OK
-Testing Folder Creation......OK
-Testing Uploads.........ERROR
-Error: A system or unknown error occured."
For the first time ever with CoffeeCup VSD, I am at a dead end on what to do here, and I can't publish the needed changes to my site, it is really a bad problem for me. PLEASE HELP! Any suggestions or problem solvers are welcome.
Thanks for your time.

Hello Ryan,
I would be more than happy to help you with any questions that you may have about our software. I would like to see if you can submit a support ticket to our technical office to see if we can get everything solved.
Thank you,

Hi Ryan,
Have you tried undoing the changes you have made (if it isn't to involved) to see if you can connect, if yes then it's something in the changes,
Try doing a resync and it still does it?
Does it give which page is causing the problem? does it stop on an image? this can be viewed as it's trying to upload in that window you mentioned.
what is in the WWW slot of your ftp settings?

Ok, so I just made changes on another site, www.Har-BerFootball.com , and SAME PROBLEM. What is going on?? I have submitted a support ticket.
Bruzer, Yes I have tried going back to the site with no changes, still the same problem. Yes I have tried re-syncing, same problem. As far as the page or does it stop on an image, on both sites the second it starts publishing and hits "Home" it goes to Error, I mean you barely see "Home" flash up on the progress window then the error message comes and and the publish is cancelled.

In the short term would it be possible to upload the pages manually, using an FTP client such as FileZilla (free) or the free one offered here at CC?

If the program has saved the changes, the HTML files should be able to be uploaded with an FTP program as suggested by Spinny.
VSD creates the html files and places them in a directory with a name similar to the name you gave the VSD file. Look for something like mysite_files for a folder.

I was having the same problem, and I think I have found a solution. When I originally created my web site, the upload went smoothly. I then set each page attribute as "Read-Only" on my host to make copying content or images harder for visitors. On subsequent attempts to upload updates to my pages, the uploads failed. After I re-set the attributes for each page to remove the "Read-Only" attribute, the uploads worked.
This was vexing, because even though I could see the site and its contents through Filezilla and the host's file upload software, it wasn't allowing the uploads to succeed.
I hope this works for you.
BTW, VSD is great---even though this was my first time designing a site, I have received many compliments on it. And I failed Art in High School!
