VSD 6 Build 4 crashes - error message...

Hi,
I'm using a Windows XP SP2 system and running Firefox.

I was having some minor problems with the previous versions of VSD so I just uninstalled these previous versions of VSD (V5.6 and V6 Build 3) and installed the latest version dated May 27th. I'm assuming this is the Version 6 Build 4 that others are talking about on the forum.

Well when I launch it everything appears fine until I click on the "Upload" button. Then I get the Windows XP error message with the message;

"Visual Site Designer Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. etc"

I've tried hitting the "Debug" button on this screen with no effect.
When this window closes the following error message appears;

"There has been an error.
Error running C:\Program Files\CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer/vsd.exe : child killed: segmentation violation
The application will exit now"

I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it three times with the same result.

I'm editing my post to add the following;

I've now tried uninstalling this version and reinstalling the previous version, VSD V6 Build 3, which had worked before and it's crashing with the same error message as above.

I also tried uninstalling VSD, restoring a registry backup from several days ago when VSD V6 Build 3 was working, reinstalling VSD V6 Build 3 and it still crashes with the same error message as above.

This is so frustrating. As far as I can tell VSD V6 build 4 has resulted in NONE of the versions working now.

I'd sure appreciate some help.

When you uninstalled a version, did you reboot your machine before reinstalling?

Are you installing VSD to its default location?

Have you run scandisk and defrag recently?

Any other programmes that you have installed before you discovered the malfunctioning of the VSD?

Just some question that springs to mind...
Ha en riktig god dag!

Hi Inger,
Thanks for the reply. The answer to your first three questions is yes and to the last one, no.
I thought this was so weird. In particular I thought that was a bizarre error message;

"child killed: segmentation violation"

Is that a normal error line? Child Killed? Very weird.

I ran a virus/spyware program just to be sure and came up clean. I defrag every couple of days.

Since posting I decided to restore an older system backup so now I have only VSD 5.6 installed and it's working properly.

If I decide to install VSD 6 again, should I uninstall V5.6 first or install VSD 6 in a different folder? Also when uninstalling, the program asks if I want to uninstall shared files that appear to not be used by other apps. Should I do that?

When I first installed VSD 6, I installed it to "Coffee Cup Visual Designer6" instead of the default Coffee Cup Visual Designer. Things seemed to work well and it was nice to be able to try things out in both versions. Then when I installed VSD 6 Build 4, I decided to uninstall VSD 5.6 and VSD 6 and reinstall VSD 6 Build 4 cleanly. I also uninstalled the shared files it asked about. Then all the trouble started.

So now I'm back in the spot I was in before installing the first version of VSD 6.

Should I uninstall VSD 5.6 (and the shared files), and install VSD 6 Build 4 to that location?

Should I install VSD 6 Build 4 into a separate folder and leave VSD 5.6 alone?

I'd sure appreciate some advice on this. It was nice having a Ghost backup from a few months ago to restore, but it's still time consuming and a hassle.

Pleased to see I'm not alone. I too have the same problem . Installed VSD 6 and all I get is the crash from a memory problem. The 'child' error screen uses \ & / in it's file path so I'm not sure if this has any bearing.

I have a problem ticket raised and will let you know how I get on.

Have currently tried uninstalling cleaning with CCleaner and reinstalling - also under tha Admin account.

Running XP SP3 and the only way I can get VSD to work is in safe mode.

Fingers crossed all will be well soon.

If the program installs in safe mode, then there is something preventing it running as a normal user. What other programs are you running in the background?

I have a pretty standard out of the box XP SP3 system here, MS Firewall etc.. and have not run into any issues. If we can understand more on the system setup, it may help.

Same issue here, but seems to be fixed... "Child killed: Segment violation".

I was able to resolve the issue by adding VSD as an exception under DEP (Data Execution Prevention):

1) Go to System properties (left click "My Computer")
2) Choose "Advanced" Tab
3) Under "Performance" section, click "Settings"
4) Choose "Data Execution Prevention" tab
5) Click "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"
6) Click "Add" and go find "vsd.exe", most likely under your \programs folder.

Hope this helps. I tried just about everything, and this finally did the trick.
