I keep getting "out of memory" message in VSD 5.85. No other programs running, XP SP2 2 GB of Ram.
What's up?
Tried uninstall/reinstall to no avail.

Whit,

You may want to click on profile, and change your forum name to something other than your email address. This is a public forum and spammers can come here looking for valid email addresses.

How much free hard drive space do you have?

Have you checked the task manager to see what is running?

Have your un-installed, downloaded again, and then install? Sometimes, a download will be corrupted, so a second download may fix things.

Let us know if this helps.

Hi Bill R.
I looked at Task Mgr and no huge memory hogs there. Just windows processes. I also shut down all extra programs, including virus and spyware stuff. No other programs running, still the same problem

Also, uninstalled and re-downloaded, re-installed VSD 5.85
but it's still doing the same thing, "Out of Memory" when I try to save or upload my site.

HELP!!!

Hi Bruce,
Don't think that applies in my situation as it states it's only for Win98 or WinME and I'm on XP sp2.
Never had this problem with the older versions of VSD nor have I had it with any other programs before.
Any other solutions?
Hate to uninstall and re-install an older version as last time I did that it seemed to jumble my constructed web pages.

Have you recently added any content since the error or did it start immediately after upgrading to 5.8.5? I saw Out of Memory errors, I believe when trying to add images, with an earlier version (somewhere in the range of 5.8.1 to 5.8.3, I think), but it was fixed right away. If you have any other VSD site projects you could test, or create a new one just to see if saving/uploading would give the same error, that could help narrow down where its the program itself or the content of the site.

Have you tried downloading the latest version of VSD (5.9.4) and upgrading to see whether that has any effect?

ON EDIT: I didn't realize this was a thread from last year. The months lined up right, missed the year. D'oh!

I am having the same problem with the VSD 5.9.4. It happens quite frequently.

I'd normally assume everyone's running on decent systems these days, so "out of memory" issues aren't so frequent anymore (unless you're still running XP on 256MB of RAM).

Apparently I asked this same question a year ago 4 posts up. Have those w/ the same problem recently added something to your site since the error has been popping up? Well, I guess that's obvious since you were working in it at the time. I haven't seen the problem since upgrading to the more recent versions (like 5.9.4), but my sites, so far, have been really small & simple (if that has anything to do w/ it). Perhaps, if it happens frequently, it might be worth a creating a new site in VSD for a while (for testing purposes) and see if the error occurs then. If it does not happen in the test site, that'd help narrow down that it may be something in the particular site/project that causes the error. It's a tough thing to troubleshoot when it only happens to an unlucky few and especially if the error is more random than one that happens consistently on a certain click or key press. Let's hope the soon-to-be-released VSD 6.0 is an answer to all prayers. (Spinny, insert "impatiently waiting" emoticon here :P)
