When I installed the last update McAfee reported a Trojan was installed. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

You know they need to change the name of anti virus software to anti productive software. You can ignore messages when your installing from a known safe source. If it won't let you install shut it down until your install is complete.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

We have been in contact with McAfee and have provided them with the information the need to prove our software is clean and virus free. They have informed us it can take 4-8 weeks just to get a reply. That just boggles my mind that it can take that long!

You can however safely ignore this alert as it is a false positive and the software should still work normally.

Better yet, just stay away from the bloatware that is McAfee and Symantec. :)

There are better, cheaper, and lighter AV programs out there.

I use MS Security Essentials. It's light, it's free, and it gets good reviews that are comparable to the other programs.

While my PC was repaired I had to connect the internet to my laptop so I installed the Norton 2010 suite (a PC mag said that Norton is no longer a fat lazy pig, all is forgiven we luv ya now and please come home etc) and it seemed to work OK.
The PC came back and this time AV free antivirus hadn't been installed.
I'm not as brave as Scott and because my copy of Norton is licensed for 2 computers I installed it on the PC too - or rather, I tried to. It just wouldn't instal, it would download a whopping 80MB of "updates" then promptly uninstal itself, I was not amused!
So now I have MS Security Essentials on the PC.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
