Hi,
I have been using VSD since last November to uplaod my site (through Lunar pages) and have suddenly run into a really annoying problem.
My site is www.justinbrownguitar.com
When I hit the upload button I get an error that says can't establish connection. So I try and test the connection and everything is ok until the tesing uploads section when I get the following error...
"Error: Cannot remove directory. Directory not empty"
I have been in contact with Lunarpages who made me do some tests and everything works fine from their end so it must be something in VSD. Aparently the error means it is trying to delete a file that isn't empty? Is there any way of disabling this? Or finding the file?
I deleted VSD and downloaded the new one (5.94) and still no luck.
currently I am uploading everyting manually through controll panel and it is killing me as it takes so much time!!
Can anyone help? I really want to updat my site but the smallest of change takes me ages.
Thanks guys.

Hi Burn,
I'm using Luarpages also, and mine to when testing hangs up, but If I go ahead and knowing the settings are correct, seems to work.
so under settings make sure you have it set up like this.
server: domain.com
user: you know
Pass: you know
WWW: /public_html
and you should be fine. If it works and is correct please let us know.

Hi, have you tried checking if the "Passive" box is checked or unchecked? located under the advanced tab? If you used the resync option under settings does it attempt to connect with the same error or stop at a certain point like on an image or something?

Hi Guys,
I've had this also. I find that I just try to re sync over and over and eventually it says YES - like it gives up - lol.

I tried to set up the Internet connection several times. Each time the Test failed to upload the file vsd.txt. The program would crash at various places, e.g. when I clicked Cancel on the (hung) upload. The last time I tried, I started VSD, opened my site (local files), set up the Internet connection, set Passive, omitted testing, and clicked Upload. It worked.
I've asked CoffeeCup whether they have a debug version to trap the crashes.
Regards, Bob

I've been using VSD with no major problems since March, and now I'm suddenly getting the error uploading message. It's completely random.
Sometimes I can't get an internet connection, sometimes it crashes while loading a page, and sometimes while loading an image--always different.
Once in a huge number of times, it is successful.
I thought I'd try a resync, but the same crash happens. It also makes no difference if I check the passive button in the ftp advanced setting.
Could it have to do with how I've named my images, even though it does upload sometimes? This is probably bad, but I've named images with a - between words, ie: elm-tree.jpg.
Using windows xp
Using 5.9.3 (and afraid to upgrade)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I was just coming in here to find out about this and after dong a search stumbled across this post.. and that was my problem..

Same problem here. Very frustrating. Tried the passive fix, re-sync and multiple tries. Don't know what is different. Keeps getting stuck on 'testing uploads' and then error: '...vsd test. The directory is not empty'.
Hey!
I have added a pagetracker manually with ftp- prog.. Should this affect my attempts to upload?
Passive or not- no difference
Correct user and pass
Firewalls or not
Mine says - not yet connected - though it is clearly connected as it creates the directory vsd.test..
Strange.. Please- coffeedrinkers - (staff) come up with a solution
Will install 6.0 again but am hoping for a clue before Im done
Ciao
