Hey guys I was wondering how I would go about starting a transparent layer to go over my backround for text? Kind of like a rounded off square or something where I could write my text? I'm using VSD for this one :)

You can't do that in VSD Max, what you'll need to do is use an image editor that has the ability to create .png with transparency. You could try CoffeeCup's Web Image Studio, that might have all the things you need to do in it. But VSD cannot create transparent images at all.

I have done something like that when playing with my CMS. I created a transparent png image and inserted it using the image tool. you can then add text over the top with the text tool and adjust layers.
I used the images as placement identification but that is another story.
