VSD 6 Build 3

I noticed that the transparency of images (.PNG) could be lost in older IE browsers like IE 6 or IE 5.

Is there something I can do?

Not really, unfortunately. Browsers that old simply didn't support some of those features. From what I've seen, websites just don't support such old browsers any longer (my corporate laptop is forced to use IE6 still, and I frequently get warning messages from web sites telling me that to use the site properly I really need to upgrade).

If for some reason you absolutely must support them the only real solution is to avoid design elements they can't handle.

Thanks!

Hmmm...We should have some statistics about how many IE users using which version.

Is it worth the effort to avoid those handy transparent images on non-commercial sites?

I will Google it. Thanks again.

There are various "IE png fixes" (Google that) that web developers use to try to make IE 6 display 32bit transparent pngs correctly, but it may not be possible to implement them with VSD.

Another approach, also complicated with VSD, is to serve different types of images to the browser depending on whether it's IE 6 or something else.

Note, IE 6 is not even supported by Microsoft.

In the same transparency subject.

Transparent GIFs do no seem to work with the new VSD. I still can if I use the HTML tool.

Also love the transparent PNG function. However if you add button text the transparency stops working. Remove the text and it goes transparent again.
Is this going to be the norm.

Yes, that is correct. You cannot use a transparent image (GIF or PNG) in conjunction with a shape. Sorry.

When text is thrown into the mix, doesn't VSD convert the transparency to the background color (or color of the shape)? I wouldn't think it would really matter whether or not transparency is maintained as long as it blends in properly.

*Edit* I now see your detailed sample pics in your new thread Jay.

I guess I hadn't done enough overlapping to see that problem yet myself.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
