The CSS Menu Builder is DRIVING ME...

I have tried NUMEROUS times to build a CSS Menu, but it will NOT work!
All I can get with a Preview or when I put it onto a WebSite is exactly what you see here in this WebSite: flights.fheaa.org.ht

I have started a number of WebSite Projects trying to make a CSS Menu that works, but it NEVER works. I only get what you see on this WebSite.

I have read the Pdf and Online Instructions for building a CSS Menu but all that I get is the results that you can see in the above WebSite.

I see that there is Java Script when I build the Menu but there is NO reference to Java Script that I can find in the <head> section of the Code.

WHY will this CSS Menu NOT work???

The WebSite was made with the VSD and the CSS Menu installed according to your Instructions. The attached Files when uploaded to the Server will NOT make a WebSite, I only get a "Forbidden" Page.

Attached are 3 of the Files generated when I tried to make CSS Menu last nite.

I REALLY need to make the CSS Menu work! WHY does it NOT work for me?

Thank you for your Reply, Roger Bartels

First things first, don't give up. I use a CSS3 menu and it works great.

First thing I see is that you have a space in the directory name. You should not have spaces in directory names or filenames. It does cause problems. Go back through your menu and make
Horizontal Menu into horizontal_menu ( wouldn't use CAPS either though that's not really a problem. Then check for any other filename with a space and change that too. Then re-upload your files and see if it works.

One question, did you Edit/Add Files to add the CSS files to your VSD site, or did you upload them separate? If you used Edit/Add Files then you should be able to 'preview' your site before uploading to the net.

Just another little pointer too with the file names, these days the dash is more appropriate for SEO than underscores so it's better today to use those for your file and folder names that you plan to upload for your site. So:

horizontal menu

becomes

horizontal-menu

and so on throughout the menu. Not sure at the moment what the big deal is, and underscores are still workable, just that it's supposed to be better for SEO to use the dashes. Good luck on it! :)

Roger,

Your css file has not been uploaded, at least not to the correct directory. See attached screenshot.

In VSD you need to click Add Files in order to add the js and css files to the html files. I can't be more specific as I don't use VSD. Others might be able to give better directions.

Well, I did this, extra for you:

I downloaded and installed VSD. Then created a menu in html Editor and saved it. I also let it place itself on a page in the html Editor. I kept this page open.

The menu creator procuces three folders, css, images and js.

Then on a page in VSD I clicked the html tool, copied the line regarding css from the Editor and pasted as 'head html' into VSD.
With the html tool I opened a box into which I copy/pasted the actual menu (from the Editor) as 'body html'.

Then I went to Edit (in VSD) - Add files. The dialogue opens a box with a root folder. Inside that I created a new folder css, and with that folder selected, I went to where the css folder from the menu was, and copied the css files into VSD. I did the same with the other two folders. Mind you, when creating th images and js folders, I have to have the root folder active. If not they risk becoming nested into each other like the Russian dolls.

So, have a go, and good luck!
