I have not even gotten to the actual maintenance of the website on the server yet, but is it logical to assume that CC only transfers to the server those html files that are actually used in the website?

What do you mean? Are you asking if a page created within VSD software will upload to server even if it is not linked to from anywhere within the software? If that is the question, the answer is yes, the page will upload either way. I actually do this on purpose sometimes when I want to create a page on a website that I don't want the general public to have access to. I just manually type the URL into my browser to access page.

I am new both to CC and the whole web creation thing. I am having a couple problems:

1. I am using a simple CC template with four "tags" on the home page: home, services, about us, contact us. I have created two other pages, My Work and Fan Mail, and would like to create clickable 'tags for them on the homepage. Is this do-able? Hope so! If not, help me with another solution.

2. When I preview my site in the browser, the click-ons are not working properly. When I click on Services, I still get Homepage. When I click on Contact, it won't click through at all, but...and this is weird...when I click from right to left, everything works fine.

Also...I can't access those other two pages -- My Work and Fan Mail -- at all in Preview.

Can you help?

Thank you!

That is weird. CC software can act like that sometimes, but it is usually one of two reasons. CC software doesn't always work great on 64 bit systems and sometimes you have to re-download the program. Once you get a good first download you should be fine, but oftentimes re-downloading can fix weird quarks.

Hi Jane,

just wondering if you have made the new page links into links? You will need to highlight the buttons and click on the add url button and then type in where you want that button to link to.

With the Home, About and Contact buttons do the same with them and just make sure that their links are still there.

From memory you get a little box on the right of the screen to add the url.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Is there a way to propogate updates to a template page? For example, I have a site with roughly 45 pages to it, but all have a common header and footer. I know would like to change an item in the header. Is there a way to make a change in the main template and updates all the rest?

Sadly I don't think so ...
But would love to have someone tell me I'm wrong. : )

I will have to say that I find that the biggest drawback in VSD. Luckily my sites thus far are relatively small. But I want to add a couple additional pages, and the only way I think that can be done is to change the menu on every single page. But at least I don't have 45 !

My guess is that for a big site, you really might be better using something like Dreamweaver or making style sheets. Gee, maybe that's on tap for the NEXT upgrade. Letting you create a menu and header template that once changed goes on to change all the corresponding pages. Hmmm.... I think I'm going to add that to the 'Features wanted' link if someone hasn't already.

Jane-
Even though the text is there for your page links you still need to make them find the page you want. Highlight the link (text) and use the Link tool. In the link dialogue there are options to use a page from the site, e-mail address or a document. You will not be able to connect to a link in Preview until the site is uploaded because the preview pane does look for the page on the internet, not in the program.
Also if the effect of the links is not working as you want, use the Effect Tool, or simply copy/paste the one that does work and change the text and page it is linked to.

If you make the changes on the first page and select all the elements in one go by holding down the shift key you can then paste onto each page in turn.

Might be wise to do save as and rename the website first so you do all the changes in a clone of the website so you can go back to original at a later date if you want to

Interesting idea. Hadn't thought of that but I like it. Thanks for posting it before I ended up going through changing things one by one. Though I suppose in the new version that would be subject to the dreaded 10x10 shift. Wonder if shifting the primary page elements 10x10 the OPPOSITE way the shift occurs would put all the 'pastes' in the right place?
