Site Upload/Catalog error. VSD v6 and...

Hi I'm trying to upload a website that I'm constructing to see if it's going to work properly.

I'm using iPower and called their support to check that all the info I'm putting in is correct and they say it is.
I'm using Windows XP SP2 and Firefox v3.0.10.

When I try to upload it using VSD 5.6 I get the following error message;
"The settings in the Internet configuration are not correct. The field "Catalog" must use the following rules.

The name of the Catalog must only include characters of the types;"

Then it lists all the letters/numbers etc that are usable. As far as I can see the information I typed in meet the requirements. When I ran the test everything worked fine.
I also tried checking "passive" in the advanced tab with no change in the result.

When using VSD v6, the same thing happened except the error message said;

"One or more of your FTP settings are incorrect. You may only use the following characters:"

Then it again lists the characters/letters/numbers I can use, then says;

"In addition, the first character of the WWW folder cannot be a number."

Again, I'm not using any number/symbols that violate these lists with the exception of my password for my site. Could the password be a problem?

Thanks for any help,

pd

Hi Paul,
All I can recommend is to uninstall and restart and reinstall see if that helps, make sure you have the latest version which is 6.0 build 4, if these do not correct the problem then please put in a support ticket by clicking the link above "Get Support".

If you read that dialog box that gave the alert, it is telling you what you may have done wrong. Specifically the part that said "One or more of your FTP settings are incorrect. You may only use the following characters:

In your WWW folder, look at what you entered:

This is ok: /public_html or / or /htdocs

This is NOT OK; ANYTHING THAT BEGINS WITH A NUMBER OR SPECIAL CHARACTER

Re-check your settings and I bet you will see where the error is. Once you correct that, you should be able to upload.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
When you say the "WWW folder" what folder exactly are you referring to?
When I talked to the support person at iPower he said to type the following in the Internet Connection drop down box in VSD;

"http://loomis.ipower.com/" then a folder name which is INSIDE the public_html folder. He told me NOT to put "public_html" in this address line. Is this correct?

As far as an actual "WWW folder" somewhere on my computer or on my ISP's site or in the VSD program I'm not sure what that refers to.

Thanks for any help,

pd

When you setup the internet connection inside of Visual Site Designer, here you added your domain, username and password. There is an input box labeled WWW folder. Check the path that you put in there.

First, thanks for the replies.

Okay, I got it figured out. Apparently the first guy I spoke to at iPower wasn't too swift. The settings he gave me for the ftp address AND the www folder were incorrect. The second guy gave me new settings and they worked.

Now my problem seems to be a lot of empty background on either side of the centered web page. I sized the pages at 770 x 1200. What settings do you recommend so the page is the optimal size yet compatible with older monitors?

Also I'm using Verison 6 build 3. I notice it still has a problem with the angled pictures.

If I install V6 build 4, first, will it fix the angled picture problem causing the background to be on the wrong layer?

Second, do I need to uninstall Version 6 Build 3 or can I just install the new build on top of the previous one?

Thanks again for all the help.
