you can use either an IP address or the website name, for mine it's the website name. If you have a .com then place your website name there, in the windows ftp it's the IP address

Hmmmm.......it just sits there saying it's sending website. Status says "TanyaSolomonHome" And by the way, I just looked, and my homepage is blank online! But all the other pages are up.....weird. I think the server was having problems tonight.....my husband said his site is down (also Hostway).

Update: I see VSD must've emptied my index.html page when it tried to upload. I went to the server myself and saw that it said "0 kb" on it! So I just reuploaded my old way and it's back up.

Still don't know why it won't let me upload in VSD.....maybe I'll try again later.

Looking at your link www.tanyasolomon.com it shows the homepage.
for the ftp server try tanyasolomon.com-then user name-password-and /www

I did....I tried that. Didn't work. I tried "enabling" ftp in my firewall. That didn't work either. Is there something else I need to enable? There's something called Web Services (HTTP) and Secure Web Services....

You have mail!

you could try totally disabling the firewall and anti-virus for the time being.
could try closing any programs running in the background that your not using with the ctrl+alt+del (task mgr)

Hi everyone with upload problems-

this has worked for me-
like a charm.
It is simple (hopefully for most of you). Assuming password and file location in the internet connection is correct -

RENAME your file

when you make chgs and save it as a NEW name. - I just add a "1" at the end and that is it.

Upload and it works - for me - like magic! .

I had this problem and I checked Passive box, in advanced setting in ftp
after that I could upload.

This would be the built-in ftp in VSD
